Shih tzu....how often do you get you dog groomed?
I have a shih tzu. When I first got her we got her a puppy cut just a trim to get her use to it and they cleaned her ears and did her nails they. Then. About 2 months ago a little longer then that. she got a hair hair cut the whole works. Well she is starting to look a mess again her face has grown up so much. Her eyes are hid in the hair a lot . So how often should I get her groomed is it like every two months or should I just do it when she starts to look a mess. This is the first long haired dog I have ever had. And what kind of cut should she get in the winter its really cold here in michigan in the winter. Just tring to plan ahead.
answer:
If you can get her used to clipping around her face using either scissor or a clipper, you can let the rest for for two months or longer. I keep my shih tzu / maltese in kind of long cut (but not dragging on the ground) and do that myself every 3 months or so. I clip around his face approx once a month or when I see it needs it. I clip nails once every two weeks and just take a little bit off. I started him very young and got him used to be being brushed and clipped and he makes very little fuss. He has been my first really long haired dog too and I learned along with him.
I groom my own Shih Tzus. When you have four of them, it gets pretty pricy to take them to the groomers. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I clip their bodies every six to eight weeks. I trim the hair on their noses and clip toenails monthly.

For places with a harsh winter, you can ask your groomer to leave her in a longer version of a puppy cut. And add a sweater.
Every six to eight weeks (just like your hair.)

Feel free to trim the hair away from her eyes.
once every 1 to 2 months
My mother takes her Shih-Tzu in every six weeks.
We get ours done about every three months. So about four times a year. Farther apart in the winter for warmth. During the summer they get a short cut but certainty not shaved. Just before it gets cold we get the same cut by the time it's cold they have a bit of shag for the cold. You'll be able to tell when your puppy need a hair cut. If her coats (hair) is really healthy (because of a high quality dog food) it may be more often. For example: Our dogs have always got great food from a pet specialty store so their coats grow out fast but, where we live in a cold climate they do not need to get cuts often. Plus we do touch-up around their eyes.
