Why do people breed their dogs when they know millions are killed each year due to overpopulation?
Ok - Read this before you answer me telling me that there are reputable breeders and people who know what they are doing -
I know there are good breeders out there. I know that they are rare, but I have no problem with breeders who know what they are doing and breeding for the love of the dog- not the money. I know that Chetco is one of them, or so it seems, so don't b*tch at me telling me that I'm wrong and stupid etc. But why does 80% (give or take) of america choose to ignore the fact that 610 animals die each minute in the US? I know it's clearly ALL about the money, but do you think these people are truly unhappy people who'd rather have shelter dogs die than live w/out a few bucks? It makes me sick when I see people asking stupid questions like Does anyone want to breed their dog w/me? How should i breed my dog? How much should I charge for my new puppies? Clearly, if you don't know the answers to those questions, YOU SHOULD NOT BE BREEDING. Period. I'm done ranting.
i agree with 100% people do know that they are dying alover the US and dont care but i tend to worry little more about the people that are dying in the US cause of lack of food and shelter thats really in my opion what we need to worry about most is the people . but i see what u are talkin about to i love animals and want to help but i think people are our main problem
Umm....why do I feel like I already answered this question???

For a second time its all for the money..
Somehow, I think I've seen this before.
Ranting, and having multiple accounts is not allowed here.
http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind…I don't breed so i can't answer.
I don't disagree with you, I just don't see the point of posting this repeatedly.

@ Robin - there are plenty of purebreds in shelters.
Being purebred is not enough of a reason to breed. Unless the dogs have proper health clearances like OFA on hips, CERF on eyes, etc, and the dogs are being proven breedworthy (ie more than just a pet), than the dogs being produced are no different than the dogs available in the shelter.
Without breeders we would never have anymore dogs.
As a breeder, most animals in shelters are mixed breeds. There are people that get dogs and later decide not to take care of them or when there dog is in heat they do not pin them up or keep them inside. If anything, breeders are more responsible than your average dog owner. I keep a close eye on my female when she is in heat and never let her come in contact with another dog unless I other wise want her too. So I really don't think you need to blame breeders. I think your anger needs to be focused on the ones that do not care for there animals and have them spade. Besides breeders charge top dollar and usually if your going to pay a lot for a dog, more than likely you will be a good dog owner. I wouldn't worry about people asking what to do when breeding... Sounds like responsible people to me...

Experience from being a top breed dog owner.
I've been tempted to breed my b*tch. She's my first female yet, and this is exactly why I'm never getting another female EVER. So I won't be tempted.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I want her to have puppies. I think it would be great fun. We could breed her to the other family dog, a mutt, and keep one or two of their puppies. It would be perfect!
But then I read about how dogs are abandoned every day for the most mundane problems - "He won't stop digging!" or "We have a baby on the way!" or "We're moving!". Etc, etc. People are shallow and terrible creatures that thing everything is expendable.
That's why I'm not breeding her. Not because she's not purebred, from great lines, etc. But because of overpopulation. Because I know how easily one of her pups could end up being one of those dogs dying in those shelters. Because I know that our phenomenal rescue dog, Bear, would have been one of those dogs if we hadn't stepped in.
How can anybody look at those dogs and say "I'm going to condemn to you die"? Could you look at your dog and say "I'm going to kill you, just because I want to have puppies". Because, that's what you're doing. You're killing off anywhere from 1-14 other dogs, and your dog could easily have been one of them.
