my dog ate about 10 oreos but i think he started eating them last night because appearently he snuck them out of our groceries yesterday. he was fine all through the night but i just noticed today that he did eat them. he is a 10-15 pound shih-tzu and believe he ate the gradually. how concerned should i be?

that would be a lot of chocolate for a dog, but the amount of cocoa is oreos is not very much. the only effect would probably be the amount of sugar and may get an upset stomach. i hope he is okay!

Baker's chocolate is what is fatal to dogs, and is usually absent in commercial products like Oreos. However, too much sugar can affect a dog's cardiac health. But, being the owner of two miniature dachshunds, I've seen a fair amount of chocolate eating (including a few chocolate rum balls!). Hydrogen peroxide works, but only if you catch them right after eating the sugar. By experience, you'll probably just see a whole lot of diarhhea today. Watch him closely though. If he ever seems unreasonably lethargic, shakey, or in general not looking good, take him to the vet.

Watch him, if your really concerned get a oral syringe and put hydrogen peroxide down his throat till he vomits, it will be frothy and gross but it works. My dog ate a package of flea/tick medicine, my vet had me do this, nasty vomit, healthy dog :) pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

That much sugar can affect his physiology. You should call your vet to see if there's anything that can be done. Since it's been hours since he ate the cookies, I doubt there's much they can do. There's no chocolate in the cookies, so you don't have to worry about poisoning from that.

VERY concerned!!! Take him to see a vet NOW - your dog could die, purebreds in special are very sensitive to sweets and worse - chocolate which is fatal in some races!

I'd be more concerned about your short term memory loss since you just asked this. He'll probably just have some diarrhea if anything

Dogs could die from chocolate so take him to the doctor and try to get him looked at and get some medication
