Lately I have noticed that my dog, Olivia who is 7 years old is not responding at all when I call her name or talk to her. She always used to. I thought this was quite a rude gesture. I'm scared she's going deaf . Could there be any other reasons why she's not responding?
You should probably take her to your veterinarian to get it checked out. Your vet can tell you whether she's going deaf. She might also just not be feeling very well .. . perhaps she's sick with something. Your vet can also tell you that.
Even though deafness is the most likely reason for your dog's behaviour she may also be angry or jealous of another animal or baby coming into the household. Her eyesight may have deteriorated to the point that she is always on guard. If she sits near and touching you with her butt then she is a little afraid but still on guard duty. If she hears you but turns away when you call she is telling you that you are in her bad books. (usually jealousy of attentions given to others) Take her to the Vet if you can't work out if she is going deaf. But if she doesn't respond to a reasonably loud noise behind her you should accept deafness as the most likely aged based reason.
dogs don't get angry or upset like people do. I hope for you that it is not deafness, but it is certainly not spite. She's certainly not trying to be rude to you , so please don't get upset with the dog for not listening. She may also be feeling reclusive because something is wrong and it is trying to not display signs of weakness. If you have a good relationship with your dog and are unaware of other health issues, try giving your regular vet a call (calling is free) an explain the situation and see if there is something they can suggest to you.

You obviusly need to have a deeper conversation, not just calling her name. Think about the past: have you ever forgotten her birthday, or ditched a date with just both of you? A girls night out? Also , make sure she has not gone to Paris lately. The people are so snooty, and she probably thinks you as a commoner now. Prove her wrong. Give here compliments on her hair, and offer her a coffee. also, buy her some hearin aids.: D
if u want to know if she is going deaf go up behind her try wen she is sleeping and make a loud noise like clap your hands together really hard. just make sure not to be so close. i would just take her to the vet, she may be sick ect and the vet would know what is wrong or knock off the possibility's. good luck!
oh ps i really am not trying to be mean or funny, wen my aunts dog went blind and she didn't know if she could see shadows or was completely blind. i did an experiment since the vet didn't now either, i flashed a flash light on her face to c if she would blink or turn her head. i also would call her across the room wen it was dark and once wen it was light from a different area. i decided that she can see shadows.
Dogs aren't rude.
