How to care for a dog that has his ears cropped?

Okay, my mom has a boxer that got his ears cropped which means that his ears are cut to a different shape pretty much. He has stiches on but he kept scratching and caused them to open. We already bought a cone so he wont scratch but i want to care for his ears. We have called the vet we go to and does not answer. And it is too late for others. I would like for somebody to tell me how to care for him. If you are going to post, please just post how i can care for his ears. I dont need to hear that it is cruel and all that other stuff. I already know. It wasnt my idea. So dont post if you are going to say that because i will just ignore it and not even read it. I just want to care for him. Please help. Thanks!!!
during the interval between suture removal and the time re-taping is scheduled, massage the healing edges of the ear twice daily using vaseline as a lubricant. Employ a stretching motion as you massage to help prevent scarring as healing progresses. DO NOT use vaseline on the day of re-taping or the tape will not stick to the ear. The ears must be kept CLEAN and DRY both before and after re-taping. If they get wet after re-taping, remove the tape IMMEDIATELY and either take the dog to the vet for re-taping or, if you are SURE you know how to properly do so, re-tape the ears yourself (see taping instructions below). If you re-tape yourself, DO NOT cover the exposed sutures at the base of the ear. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Ears which are continously wet after taping are very slow to stand. The cartilage loses its rigidity and develops scar tissue formation. Keep the ears CLEAN and DRY!!

If your puppy is hyperactive and insists on scratching at the bandages the first week following surgery, give him from? Of a 5 grain ASPIRIN, not acetominophen (acetominophen like that found in Tylenol, IS TOXIC TO A DOG). Many times, the aspirin will reduce inflammation and alleviate the itching associated with the sutures and bandages. Administer up to one full 5 grain aspirin every 4-6 hours.

Baby socks taped over the rear paws or a hand towel rolled like a donut and pinned around the neck will help prevent the puppy from scratching at its ears and pulling out the sutures. NOTE: ELIZABETHAN COLLARS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED by Spear-Bar Kennels!

more info on the source website!
If he is scratching and pulling out his stitches he needs to be put in an Elizabethan collar until the stitches are removed. As long as the ears are no longer bleeding just clean them and leave them til the vet opens in the morning. If they are still bleeding you will need to take him to the emergency vet. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Properly done medical procedure in not cruel so not going to hear anything about cruelty from me.
Other than putting some anti-itch ointment on his ears or giving him a tranquilizer, there is nothing you can do. Leave him alone. Fussing over your dog will make it worse. You can't alleviate the discomfort.

The itching and the pain will decrease. If you feel you must do something, call an emergency vet and see what they say, or call your vet the first thing in the morning.
Put the collar on him, leave him alone until you can consult with a veterinarian. Most ear cropping, done right, heals up easily. The challenge isn't keeping the cuts clean, it's training the pup's ears to stay erect.

Here's a very helpful site; note the hot link to tutorials in the text.
Jennifer has most of this right.

However, I've had some pups do some scratching at ears, and even though they might bleed a bit, it's really no big deal. They learn quick not to scratch.

I've never used a cone on any of mine (I've done a lot of ear crops). The ears look a bit gross for a few days but its really no big deal.
If it opens you might want to put some atiseptic cream on the wound just to make sure it doesn't get infected. other than that there's really nothing you can do.
neosprin works and makes it heal fast i do this with my pit bulls good stuff!
Unfortunately the success rate for aftercare of ear cropping isn't very good, especially for novice owners. If the sutures have opened there is nothing you can do right now, but wait until morning and have it redone. Waiting any longer, the body will try and heal itself by forming scar tissue in the wrong places .. which means the ears won't stand at all, so don't let that happen ... get it fixed in the AM. For now, keep them clean and dry and keep the e-collar on 24/7 .. you might also try putting a "booty" or padded sock on his back feet so that if he does scratch the nails wont get to the ears.
