Can i give my 17 year old dog like omega 3 fish oil (1000mg) which is for human?
Just adopted her yesterday. I went to vet today to check her out. They did some X-ray and blood test. O_o ... My dog doesn't like to walk around the house that much. She just lay on her bed for 6 to 7 hour. I may have to force her to do some exercise. What do you suggest?
Fish oil does not help with a dog's ability to exercise. You should have had a conversation with your vet about how care for an elderly dog.
Yes, fish oil is healthy for dogs and the human formulation is fine. If she's an old dog with bad joints, one good exercise to try is swimming in shallow water.
yes it is ok for you to give it to her its best if u mix it in her food but you dont have to it will help her skin and coat
I applaud you for adopting an older pet. Many people these days are having to give up beloved, well behaved older pets due to the economy. You will probably find her to be a great choice.
You can give your dog Omega 3 fish oil for humans. She may not want to take the capsules, so you can puncture the capsule (gel type) and squeeze the oil out onto her food. Another good supplement for your dog is brewers yeast. It comes in tablets and my dog eats it like doggie treats. It is not expensive to buy. There are also vitamins available for dogs, again, not expensive. At her age, I would feed the best dog food you can afford and supplement with vitamins, omega 3's and brewer's yeast.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com At 17 years old, your dog most likely has some arthritis or other joint issues that make it painful for her to move around a lot. I would not recommend "forcing" her to exercise. I would take her out for short walks and go slowly. Let her signal you when she's had enough and is ready to go home.
In addition to possible pain, your dog may be dealing with grief over the loss of her previous home and for sure she is under a bit of stress trying to adjust to a new home and family. Give her plenty of time and love to help her through this transition.
One last suggestion ... Be sure to treat your dog for fleas with K9 Advantix or FrontLine Plus. At her age she can ill afford the health consequences of a flea infestation.
Best of luck to you and your dog. I hope you have many happy, healthy years together.
Yes, and it is good for her kidneys as well. If she is a big dog, you can safely give her up to 3000 mg, spaced throughout the day.You can also give her a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. A good one is Cosamin DS. You can get it at Walmart (it is cheapest there). You start the dog on two a day for a month and then go down to one a day. A senior vitamin may help as well, but your dog is very old! I hope she is with you for a few more years. You are so wonderful for adopting an old dog.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Edit: OK, she is a poodle, but what size? Toy, miniature or standard?
Edit: If she is a standard (over 50 lbs), then you can give her what I suggested. I am sure that your vet will further counsel you on what to give to her.
NO don't give you dog anything besides dog food
