According to my research, and people from my earlier question .. I cant have an Akita. But would a Havanese or toy poodle work for me?
You can have any breed you like.
But it won't ensure a match made in Heaven.
There are many things to consider when considering breeds. You obviously will have certain physical preferences. You will have some preconceived notions (most newbies do, anyways), such as "doesn't bark a lot" or "doesn't shed" ; or "isn't too hyper" or whatever (despite the fact that many wishes for behavior can be determined by proper training).
Then you have to mesh up your desires with reality. What are the breed's natural inclinations and drive? What are their physical characteristics - coat, etc.? What are your real expectations of the dog?
If you can be honest with yourself and delve deeper than an Animal Planet Breed Quiz or whatever, then you can find yourself an awesome furry friend and a relationship that will be very rewarding. Choose wisely.
It's good that you're researching the breeds. I bet you know what traits you want and are trying to find the right breed. Are you taking the compatibility tests online? They're interesting to take, just don't decide based on those alone. I kept getting dogs I knew weren't even close to what I wanted. I hope you find what you're looking for ..... good luck.
