What dog should I get?

Im thinking of getting a Basset Hound or pekingese, but im not sure?

Any suggestions and information?
It depends on your lifestyle. As such, if you live in a small flat a Labrador or a Great dane is not going to work out and if you love trekking through forests for hours a Yorkshire Terrier or a Pug will not be best. We would need more information on your lifestyle to answer properly.

ADD: Pekingese sounds like the best dog for you.
Depends what you are wanting.

Basset hounds and Pekingese are two entirely different dogs.

Pekingese definitely need lots of grooming care and male pekes typically don't like other male dogs. You may run in to seziures if it runs in the bloodline thats the only big problem but happens very rarely. However snoring or snorting is another, since the pekingese have "bug" eyes they dont really close their eyelids all the way so they are prone to infections in them. Other that that they are healthy dogs, I would recommend them. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Basset hounds are naturally well-behaved breed making him the perfect household pet. The Basset Hound is very gentle, sweet, and loving. This breed is prone to howling and barking so he makes a good alarm dog, but is much too gentle to be a guard dog. They get along wonderfully with other dogs .. Feed seperately as they tend to hog food.
It depends on where you live, for example French Bulldogs are specifically bred for the city life, they are not very athletic and have a squished up face (sometimes leads to breathing problems) from they're pug side. On the contrary, Retrievers need space to run and are very athletic.

Basset Hounds need space, they need big yards are are not the small apartment type.

Pekingese too love the outdoors so try to consider where you live.
No one can recommend a breed without knowing a lot of things about you, your lifestyle, living condition, activity level etc. The differences between those two dogs is night and day. Bassets are hounds and as such are ruled by their noses making training difficult where a Pekingese is an independent and protective dog who is quite often a one-person dog, and is generally wary and aloof with strangers. I would suggest you do your homework and find some breeds that seem to match your lifestyle. Exercise level is critical. If you want a dog that will run with you while you skateboard, don't get a pug, english bulldog or newfie. If, however, you live in an apartment and don't intend on running a dog daily for 2 hours, don't get a husky or malamute. Make sense?
You need to look up both breeds and see which ones best matches your personality and lifestyle. Since no one here knows you we can't suggest a dog unless its just our opinion of the breed. Some people will tell you I have a Basset and I love him so get a basset, but you should never get a dog because someone else has one and he's wonderful or you like the way it looks, because owning a dog is much more than that. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

ADD: That says not much about you.
All I have had growing up are basset hounds. They have huge personalities, are very cute and cuddly, playful and are all around friendly dogs. I never had any major health problems-one of them would get cysts every once and a while but nothing major. I would definitely go with a basset hound:)
You should get either a pug or an english mastiff: DI have both and I love them to death. My pug is such a spaz and incredibly funny and entertaining. My mastiff is really loyal, was easy to train, follows me around, and is fairly quiet and serene, unless of course someone she doesn't like comes near her or me. If you get a black haired pug, that will be little grooming require to take care of it seeing as they have short hair and don't shed that much. Some people say that ougs are prone to breathing troubles but that is only if you don't god care of it. I take my pug on walks every single day and she had no breathing troubles what so ever, you just have to make sure it stays in good shape and doesn't get fat ... I know basset hounds bark a lot so if you don't want a dog who barks a lot don't get that dog. Pekingese remind me a lot like pugs, they're very playful and fun. They get scared easily (from my experience at least) but they ' re good dog, but so are basset hounds because they're also really loyal .... It depends on if you want a lap dog, who is also entertaining. or a dog that will love you to death and do anything for you: )
Yes, there is a great place to look to find answers to which breed is a good fit for you. Go to the American Kennel Club website and they have an area which describes all the breeds and their characteristics and needs. You can see which one is a good fit for you. Happy Hunting and Good Luck!!
I personally like boxers. They are playful, energetic, loving, curious, little pups:) Mine is spoiled to the core. She loves everyone she meets but she is also very protective but would never hurt a soul. boxers are smart dogs fast to learn what your teaching them. Mine will even say I love you and momma. One thing i noticed about boxers though is they snore alot and have a hard time staying still.: D at least the ones ive encountered. If i could i would tell everyone to get a boxer!
