He's a very small dog. I was just wondering because I didn't want him to have aggression problems and so on. We have plenty of room indoors and outside. But I just need a professional opinion I guess. Lol
Well I AM a professional and support the answers thus far. Both are short haired dogs and not bred to fight the elements. But even given a nice warm place, they are pack animals and require being part of the pack. Now, gun dogs and farm dogs do this all the time but they will form a pack with the other dogs or animals. This works for their mental well being but then you aren't part of THEIR pack so don't expect them to listen to you.
There is nothing wrong with putting a dog outside for a few hours a day for some exercise and fresh air. Even a dog appreciates some free time to do as it wishes. We put our dog outside and wait for him to ask to come in. There are days when he would prefer to spend all day out there. Now; I do go out to check on him and play fetch with him, but he would be just as happy to curl up in his favourite spot and have a nap.

It's THREE degrees fahrenheit outside today and he has been out for over 2 hours. As yet, he has not asked to come back in.
No dog should be left outside, because there is so much that could happen. He could get out, get hit by a car, attacked by a dog, stolen, or a dog could come into your yard and hurt him. I don't know how you have a lab and jack russell mix.

Your dog is part of your pack/family. You going to leave the kids outside too? You will have a better dog if it spends time with the family.
I'm not a 'professional' but no, probably not. he might die of exposure or get lost or be eaten by wolves, or stolen or bitten or stung or poisoned or shot etc. So no, no it's not
