My 4 and a 1/2 month old GSD has a swollen toe on her back left foot. We took her to get her nails trimmed at PetsMart 2 days ago, and I did notice there were tuny specs of smeared blood on the floor. Is it possible that they trimmed/cut to short causing a slight bleed and the swelling?
Bleeding yes, swelling? I don't think so. I suppose it's possible to get an infection although I've never seen it from trimming the nail to short (called "quicking"). My first reaction would be that the dog may have wrenched away while they had the toenail in a guillotine type trimmer (why I hate those) and he may have done tissue damage. What really needs to be done is to determine if this is swelling due to infection which would require a vet visit or one that was caused by trauma. It may just be wise to see your vet to be on the safe side.
That is probably exactly what happened. Next time you may want to have a tech at your vet's office do the trimming or better yet, get a good quality clipper and learn to do it yourself.
If you saw blood that means they definitely cut her nails too short and when she started to fight they may have twisted her foot to hold her still. The groomers at PetSmart are really stupid here.
your dog let outdoor.
