Is it safe to buy dogs from ebay?
I know it is a bad choice to get a puppy online, but my local shelter currently doesn't have small toy breeds and I would like to get one for my birthday. Is it okay to buy a pup from ebay? I want to be safe about this cause I don't like purchasing online, but i really want a puppy. I also checked local breeders but there are none less than an hr. away.
I don't think you can do that anymore.
If you want to pay too much for a poorly bred puppy, which may have genetic health or behavior issues, sure.
Yes, where else would breeders get their dogs? NO no one sells their dog on ebay, though you can find dog accessories and items there. Two absolutely different things. Assuming you're not a troll, go to petfinder.com if you're so interested.
No. people can lie. The dog may have a bad disease so their trying to get rid of it but they don't want you to know
No it is not safe. A puppy needs to be visited and held and played with before you purchase it. Also lifestyle matching is crucial. Good breeders can match with personalities of potential buyers.

"I know it is a bad choice to get a puppy online"

Do you really?? Because if you did you wouldn't be asking this question.

NO it is not good to get a puppy on Ebay. Just because your local shelter does not have small breed dogs RIGHT NOW does not mean that they won't have any tomorrow, or next week. You can also check rescue organizations near you. Try petfinder.com.
No unless you want a poorly bred puppy from a BYB or mill. Probably less than 1% are posted from any decent breeders. It takes time & effort of research to find a good breeder. One is just not going to be handed to you at home. Either pay & do the work to buy a healthy puppy or take the easy route & buy a cheaper puppy with tons of vet bills in the future.
I wouldn't get a dog that I couldn't see and spend some time with. Fine if someone advertises on Ebay--in the Twin Cities people do it all the time, but it's easy to go see the item. I don't know if they let you advertise dogs. I would never ship a dog unless I was a multi millionaire and had the money to do it right.
Selling dogs on eBay isn't even allowed. If you see someone doing that, you need to report them, not encourage them with a bid. Never agree to take in a dog before meeting it in person because you don't know if the dog is real (there are lots of puppy scams), and if it is, you don't know if its personality is right for you. You can wait for the shelter to get in a dog you want, or check around for nearby rescues of toy breeds. Sometimes when it comes to getting an animal, you have to be patient and wait for the right one to show up.
I thought it was illegal to sell animals on ebay... so I would have to say no.
See Ebay classifieds advertisements in your area. Some are from breeders. Some are not.Family pets mostly had pups.I got my boxer from an advertisement on Ebay Classifieds. No regrets, he is a great boxer.I did not buy him on line. She was an hour from my town.Went to see him at 2 weeks and she sent me weekly pictures til I picked him up at 8 weeks.I am sure you can find one in your area.
Do you mean ebay classifieds (formerly kijiji)? Then, no - all you'll get is BYBred junk for too much money while encouraging irresponsible breeding. Pick a breed - look up that breed's parent club online (______ club of america) and go to the breeder referral list
Absolutely not. Get it from a shelter, rescue, or reputable breeder, if you get one at all. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Personally, your lack of patience and need for immediate gratification make me concerned enough to suggest that you should rethink getting a dog at all. No reputable breeder will give you a dog immediately. They have waiting lists, will screen you and your family to make sure you have the ability to raise a puppy properly, and once approved, you may have to wait months. We waited anywhere from three months to over a year for each of our dogs.

Get a dog from a puppy mill (pet store), on line (puppy mill), back yard breeder (ad on Craig's List or the classifieds) or a sign posted in the grocery store and what you save in terms of the cost of the dog, you'll spend ten times over in vet bills and heartache.
