answer:
Yes I see no problem with this as people have done this for years and have even been able to train their dogs while working eight hrs. a day. Think about it, our shelters would be over run if this was the case. Long before they started putting them in cages we used to put them in a bathroom with things put up, a few toys, blanket to lay on, water and newspaper to use as potty. You will have plenty of time with your hours to train and enjoy the company of a dog. Plus you have your Mother in law to come by and look after her, so yea, go ahead and get one.
I get that you only work part time, but another important question is how much of your free time do you usually spend at home? Dogs are very social animals and have high needs. You must first find a breed that you can manage, I jumped into getting a dog with no first hand knowledge about her breed or anything of the like. Now here I am with a 4 year old yorkie/shitzu mix that has a corn allergy and epilepsy. Please know that dogs are long commitments to love and care for. They can have various needs and conditions that have to be met. Don't rush into getting a dog cause you think they are adorable, research, plan and really try and visualize your life caring for an animal that may or may not be the sweet adorable well behaved animal you imagined it to be.
Not unless you have someone that can come take it out a couple times while you're at work, or can hire a dog walker to do that when it's young. You would, however, be fine with an adult dog or an older (6 months+) puppy that's housetrained already and can "hold it" for the 5 hours you are gone.
NO . Dogs hate being left in the dark .Epically puppies they love attention and need i the most. It is critical to give puppies care .They need proper care or else they will misbehave ( just like children ). You need to get a older dog (not too old ) like 2 or 3 . But do not get them from pet stores because they get them from puppy mills and puppy mills are terrible. They abuse, beat and neglect dogs and puppies . And 9 times out of 10 they will have health issues when you get them or later on in there life and will either die or live a miserable life . I hope it helped : D
despite what many folks say here, many (actually MOST) of the "pros" breeding the dogs, showing, attending obedience & agility have day jobs. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
you may need some cleverness to overcome hurtles but it CAN be done
No, unless you know someone who can go to house during the day to let it out. Or if you can take a couple days or a couple weeks to get it used to the house and get used to being alone.
Get one 6 months and up who can hold their bladder for longer periods.
Doesn't look like the pup will be home alone that long that often.
I wouldn't suggest a young puppy. Possibly an older pup, like 5 -6 months so that he can hold it while your gone.
No - a puppy needs attending every two hours at least.
