I have a question for PIT BULL OWNERS?
I have an american pit bull, he is about 4 1/2 months old and is 37 pounds. Straight up I want him to grow big, strong, and healthy of course. I am currently feeding him eukanuba large breed puppy food, I have heard mixed opinions about it but I would like to get some input as to what I should be feeding him and if I should be mixing it with something like: vitamins, nutrients, protein, etc. please and thank you. (And exercise advice also)
I'm not a pit bull owner but I'm very familiar with the breed. You want to know what's good for him, food-wise?
One thing about dog, and human, nutrition is that it's basically filled with corn. Corn syrup, corn, mutated corn, you name it, it's corn, and it's there. Eukanuba is kind of like a processed corn filled diet for your dog. If you want your pit bull to be a pit bull, I don't see the problem with feeding him that, I mean, despite it's setbacks, it's not BAD food. He won't die from it. We don't die from it. But if you want him to go along with a more healthy diet, I'd say http://www.canidae.com/ is pretty good. Also, Blue Buffalo or something along those lines.

Rather than trying to improve the food, I suggest you change it. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Better brands include:
Solid Gold
Taste of the Wild
Flint River Ranch
Canidae
Blue Buffalo
Orijen
Wellness
Evanger's
Also, there are homemade diets - raw meaty bones, etc.
My Pit eats a combination of raw meaty bones and dry dog food.
Exercise: My dog and I go bike riding when there is no snow (every day). I trained her to run next to me and not cut in front of the bike. She loves it and shakes with excitement when I get her harness down. I wear the leash on my upper arm so she doesn't jerk my handlebars around, though I know there's a bike attachment you can buy as well.
Otherwise, long (when the dog is older) walks morning and evening with the addition of trick training and playtime. Take it easy while the dog is young, though.
Eukanuba is an OK food. It has a TON of fillers in it, Blue Buffalo is best. It has no by product, no soy, wheat, corn or meat meal. REAL meat is Always the first ingredient in your dogs food. With a quality food like Blue your dog does not need any extra vitamin because the food contains all he will need to grow string and healthy, Adding more vitamins to an already vitamin rich food will actually be more detrimental than it will be good. Don't walk the dog too much right now, his bones are still developing. Ill say 45 minutes a day. A short walk in the morning, and some in the evening. With moderate exercise in between,

I have a 9 month old standard poodle. I feed her a 4 star food. I had her on Native, which had 33% protein, but couldn't get it last time so I got Canidae, and I think maybe the protein content is a little low for her age, so I'm supplementing with eggs, liver, even peanut butter treats for a couple months.
I don't think corn is good for dogs, and especially not for poodles of any size.
As someone else stated, most foods are filled with corn. Corn is the most useless thing to consume. Period. For dogs, cats, or us.
I personally feed a raw prey model diet. I would suggest that, a BARF diet or even homemade.
Otherwise natural balance is pretty decent.
Try something more like Blue Buffalo, or even a raw meat diet- google it. If you feed him properly, you shouldn't need any extra supplements. As for exercise- walks, runs, games of tug, agility, weight pull, there's a lot of things that APBTs can do. Don't expect him to get ripped overnight, they normally fill out fully towards the age of 3.

Good luck with your dog!
The APBT is not a large breed dog, it's a medium sized breed. Large breed food is not necessary.
Eukanuba, though it is expensive, is not a good quality food. Read analysis (vitamins, protein, nutrients) here:
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_… As you will see, this food has 1 out of 6 stars. It's crap.
A better brand of puppy and dog food is Orijen, read analysis here:
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_… You will see that this is a 6 star food, great quality, high protein, human grade ingredients, etc.
