There is a breeder in my town who is very well known in the area. Many well-known people in the area get their dogs here, including many athletes and TV personnel in the city. They're a large facility, which I don ' t in itself find offensive, but intentionally breed labradoodles, goldendoodles, and lab-golden mixes. Assuming they did everything else in a conscientious, responsible way, would the fact they breed mixed dogs disqualify them as a responsible breeder in your book?
No. Absolutely NOT. They are breeding mutts and selling them for thousands. A * large facility *. Sorry. Churning out the mutts hundreds at a time? I don't care who buys them. TV personnel and athletes buying them does not impress me. Neither does it make it * right *.
These dogs are not tested. These dogs are bred for what purpose? Do these dogs have a PURPOSE? Such as retrieving/hunting/sporting/agility?
Why not just buy from a reputable breeder who stands behind their puppies and has done all the right testing and it is a BREED. Why settle for a Fusion when you can have a Mustang for the same price?!!
Yes (it would disqualify them as a responsible breeder - not yes, I'd buy !!!). If only because deliberately mix-breeding, and hanging these ridiculous names on the results is only being done to MAKE MONEY. Nothing else. What they are doing is producing mutts - and they can use all the excuses in the world forward for doing this - it still won't persuade me to feel any different. There is nothing wrong with Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Poodles so why it's felt necessary to mess around with three perfectly good breeds is beyond me - other than TO MAKE MONEY. Given the effort some of these people are putting into producing these puppies, one wonders why they don't get hold of some really good specimens of the 'real thing' and set about producing a good bloodline, of a RECOGNISED BREED. That would make sense to me.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com The rest is just a scam - using adults as ATMs.
ps If your local celebs. are buying into all this - they have more money than sense - which, of course, is the case with most of 'em.
There are some people who breed these type of mixed breed dogs and for good reason. So the fact that they are intentionally breeding a mix breed dog does not make them a irresponsible breeder IMO. These breeds you listed are often good for people with allergies and many organizations use them to be trained as aids for those with a handicap but are allergic to dogs.
However the fact that you recognize that "They're a large facility" indicates they have recognized the demand for these types of dogs and are in it for the money, not for the love of the "breed" so in my first impression is that they are irresponsible.
Many of these "designer dog" breeders are definitely trying to produce a new breed of dog, however most are not going at it the right way. I don't paint them all with the same brush, as I know many of them personally and know they think they are doing something good.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com The ones that worry me are the ones that are not testing their stock before breeding and not joining nor starting a breed club to set overall standards for what they are doing. All dogs at one time were what we think of as mutts, but caring breeders started developing certain breeding standards and got together with other breeders to form clubs to set standards. Once they were all breeding with the same standard in mind, they applied to the AKC for recognition status and that's how we got all our "purebred" dogs . You have to start somewhere, the only problem is weeding out the ones only in it for money from those actively pursuing the development of a new breed of dog.
No, there is no purpose in breeding mutts. These people are propagating the lies of hybrid vigor which has been disproved in breed crosses. The myth that to beed a poodle to another breed makes the offspring hypoallergenic is just that a myth. The original experiment to create hypoallergenic seeing eye dogs was a failure the practice abandoned. However there are a couple of exceptions. The alaskan husky for example. These dogs are breed and crossed for a specific purpose for the use of the breeders and their inner circles. They are specifically bred for sled dog racing and have proven themselves superior to the purebreds . If I were to race in the iditorod I would purchase my dogs from one of those breeders.
Yes, I am absolutely amazed that people are stupid enough to by "Designer Breed" mutts. In Australia many years ago scientists proved that there was no way to have a real Labradoodle or Goldendoodle, it simply can never come our 50-50 and will never be an actual breed, the dogs are mutts. I don't have a problem with mutts, I volunteer at an animal shelter, but there are already so many waiting in shelters that people need to be stopped from breeding them on purpose. I also handle beautiful purebred dogs in shows and when spectators come and ask where the Goldendoodles and Yorkiepoos are they are laughed at and I mean laughed at. People are so brainwashed by this new phase that they don't realize that a real breeder is one who uses their dogs in confirmation, agility, obedience, and more and also has all of their health testing so that they are breeding to better the pure breed itself.
