Skin Issue with a Chihuahua?

  Back history:

Over the past two months or so I've noticed my Chihuahua's coat seeming to get greasy/oily requiring more frequent bathing. I figured maybe he was getting dirty in his crate, considering that he loves to roll on his freshly chewed bones/roll on his food. I didn't think much of it, other than washing him what seemed like once every two weeks with a gentle shampoo. I noticed yesterday some dandruff appearing and had mental marked how often I'd been needing to wash him. His coat is not dried out, so I suspect Seborrhea. He's a bit itchy, but showing no other symptoms. No change in food or environment. He did however get some fleas from the kitten we adopted which are now eradicated.

Questions:

- I always thought Seborrhea was either greasy hair OR dandruff. Can it be both?

- If it can be both, which shampoo should I use? I know there's one for greasy and one for dandruff.

- What's the best fatty acid pill for a dog of his size? He's about four pounds. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Thanks!
You should really ask your vet to be sure that it is Seborrhea because if you treat for it and it turns out to be something else, many things can go wrong. It might only be that you were washing him too often causing his skin to be dried out because dogs need the natural oils in their skin and coats so they shouldn't really be bathed unless absolutely necessary, usually no more than once a month. I personally find that oatmeal shampoos work best to both clean out dirt and grease while moisturizing the dog's skin. Omega Pet, Derm Caps, and EFA-Z Plus are some options for the pills, but once again you might want to ask your vet what they think first.
TRY this ... I always recommend this product for dogs with skin problems .... sounds to me like he has a yeast infection.
