My dog is 7 months old and has recently started marking in and out of the house. He was neutered at 4 months and first started marking a couple weeks ago when we took him on walks, but now he has started doing it in our home. I don't know if this makes any difference, but he started marking in the house the day we stopped taking him out on walks, due to heavy rain. He is trained on bed pads for various reasons (mainly his health and safety-we have a lot of wildlife in the area) and has access to them whenever he needs. When feeding, we scatter his food around the hallway because he otherwise tends to "inhale" it and choke. A lot of times when he is running around to the food, he will mark, but he does not lift his leg when he pees, so it is not easy to catch him when he is marking. There have not been any changes in our family that I can think of, so maybe it has to do with his age? Any ideas on why he might be doing this or how we can get him to stop?
Is he your only dog? You had him neutered early enough that it should have stopped the marking behavior, which usually uses the leg lift. So, this may not be marking at all but excited accidents. If your dog can use pads he might think that means he can go anywhere in the house. Also some dogs just can't help themselves but pee a little when they get excited, maybe that happens with the food. Though he is neutered, at this age he would be really starting to go into puberty so he can be having some hormones still messing with him. This phase may pass, but in the meantime use deodorizing cleaner to clean every place in the house where he might have peed. If he smells pee, either outside or in the house, he will think that it is okay to pee there again, or mark it.
