How to potty train a yorkie? Please help?

Well my yorkie is almost 2 years old and we've had her for like a year and half and she always pees on the newspaper we set up for her but she always ahs little mistakes around the house and my mom is sick of it. So she told me if i don't potty train the dog in a week she's going to take her to the pound and i really don't want that to happen,

So please help

Thank you
Urgh, you should have never taught the dog that peeing in the house (on the newspaper) is ok. Dogs often can't tell the difference between a newspapers, a puppy pad and a rug. All you did was confuse the dog and now she doesn't know for sure where peeing is ok.

It's fixable, but it will take time that you don't have. Certainly not in a week.

The only answer i can give which might make your mom happy and give you time to retrain your dog is diapers. I have seen rubber underwear for dogs where you can put a pad in to help dogs potty train. She will not want to pee in there and will be more willing to hold it till you can get her outside. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Get rid of the newspaper, take her outside every 3 hours to relieve herself and praise her like crazy with treats and all when she does. Keep the diapers on the dog while she is inside at all times.

It will take a lot of work and time and you will HAVE to stick to it, but it's doable. Yorkies are hard to potty train, the don't like going out in the cold and the rain and they are stubborn.

Good luck
1 Don't bring her to the pound because that is simply being lazy and not putting in the effort, and is just plain unfair to the dog

2 Don't let her have food and water always available because then you really have no schedule to see when she might have to go to the bathroom

3 Bring her outside/on the newspaper on the leash and simply wait, when she goes make it very fun and exciting with squeaky-voiced praise, toys, and petting

4 Overall, you have to have patience and persistence, and don't yell at her when she has accident because she doesn't connect the action and the yelling together and doesn't know what she did wrong
Brenna, a dog needs to have fresh water available 24/7. I'm sure your breeder mentors didn't tell you to keep them away from it, and if so, they are pure D wrong. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

That is why I never recommend training a dog to puppy pee pads or newspapers. Most of them never learn the concept of going outside to potty. I hope your dog is not too old to learn, as most small dogs have housebreaking issues most of their life.

Hello conffitihelper It is important to begin potty training as soon as that new puppy comes home. While some owners might cut the new addition some slack the first few days, it is these first few days that will really help ingrain the idea of potty training into the puppy, as well as the owner. With this in mind, a daily routine should be established to help with the training. This should include scheduled feeding, as well as potty breaks outside. As the puppy gains more bladder control, and gets used to the scheduled feeding and potty breaks, it will be easier for the owner to try and schedule those breaks around their day and when they will be home.

BUUUUUT THERE IS ONE WAY YOU CAN POTTY TRAIN YOUR DOG FAST

When your effectively litter training dog you need to buy your materials first. You can use a litter box for dogs or cats, it does not matter. But, you must use dog litter as you potty train a yorkie. Do not use kitty litter. When you're litter training a dog, be sure to place the litter box in the bathroom. In order to potty train a yorkie effectively, soak up a small bit of dog urine on a paper towel or newspaper and place it in the bathroom area by the litter box. When the dog smells his own urine, he is more likely to use the bathroom in that area.

If the dog urinates in areas other then in his litter box, be sure to clean his mess well. You do not want him doing it in that same spot. It is best when litter training dog that you try catching him in the act of not using the box. You need to shock him by saying no loudly then start directing him to the bathroom area where you should then praise him. Be sure to get the dog used to getting in and out of the box. Pick your dog up and place him in the box. Cheer him each time and as you potty train a yorkie you will see success. I found a free dog training website that I thought maybe extra helpful, so I put it at the bottom for you to take a look at.
I hate to say it but you may have a little of a hard time with her since she is 2 and you have been using newspaper. I would not recommend using newspaper as this results in inappropriate urination and deification in the house as you are already experiencing. But don't give up hope, it is still possible to housebreak her but it is going to take more than a week and you are going to have to be determined to hang in there and keep trying. You can teach an older dog, you just have to go back to basics. You can try the potty pad that they sell, some do have luck with those but I still am not a fan of those, I believe you get the same results with them (although some swear by them, I don't)
