what types of dog do you immediately see when looking at thi

we recently adopted a dog from a kill shelter and brought it home the same day. They had little to no information on him and it seems quite obvious that he had been abused. To me he looks part Irish wolfhound, or some kind of terrier but with a long torso and short stocky body. My wife really doesn't want to have a pit bull mix around since we have a smaller dog at home to worry about but she thinks it might have some in there. (no offense pit bull lovers , just not for us) I'm not so convinced. Any suggestions? it's the bigger of the two in this picture. Thanks

Looks like a Irish wolfhound/lab/schnauzer mix

Very unique looking ... definitely does not show signs of being part pittie ..

Just to remind you, i hope you know that many MANY pitbulls are just as sweet as a lab. They just have a bad rap.

Thanks for adopting <3
He looks like a Schnauzer mix I have no clue what else though. He's definitely not a pit mix at all. And if he was what difference would it make, pits can be the sweetest dogs ever, if bred correctly and trained. Goldens can be aggressive, but people still get them! That's just ignorance right there.

I guess I can see where you get the Iris Wolfhound, how old is he?? He's rather small for an Irish Wolfhound but his tail does have that curl. I don't see lab either.
I work at a vet office and there is a dog named Sandy that comes frequently. She had a DNA panel done and she has Schnauzer and Greyhound in her. With those thighs and that curve in the tail ... I would say thats more than likely what she is.

Most vet offices can draw blood and do a DNA panel which shows what breeds are in her if you really want to know. It's usually about 200 bucks.
Terrier, yes. I don't see any APBT at all. None of the body type or facial features that identify any bully breed.

Get a DNA test if two drops of Pit blood would bother your wife. They're down to about 60 bucks now.
Here are some possibilities:

1. Bouvier des Flandres/Giant Schnauzer mix

2. Bouvier des Flandres/Irish Wolfhound mix

3. Giant Schnauzer mix

4. Irish Wolfhound/Terrier mix

5. Bouvier des Flandres mix

I really don't think there's any pit bull in him.
He looks like a dog that needs love and a warm safe place to sleep at night. Little dog is looking like he's saying, hey big dog, lets be buddies.

Don't treat him like the stereotyped pitbull and you won't have a problem.

Again, I just see a dog that needs a helping hand.
I saw a dog today at the dog park that looked almost identical to this one. Her owner said she was a mix between a labradoodle (lab & poodle) and a schnauzer. I do not see any bully breed in that dog.
He is adorable! I don't see any pit at all! I'm with Jenny: looks like a schnauzer/lab cross. He also looks like he could use a lot of love! Your vet could do a DNA test for about $ 50, but they aren't always entirely accurate. Thanks for rescuing him!
So even if it's the nicest dog ever you would dump it in a second if you somehow found out it has Pit Bull "in it". Sad, very sad.

Does it really matter what breed it is?
My sister had a dog that looked like yours and it was really good around children, It looks like it might have a bit of Schnauzer in it.
He is pretty small for any sort of IW mix, but he still could be. He looks like a German Wirehair Pointer or Griffon, although they are not usually black. doesn't look like a pit to me at all.
I dont see and pit in it. Looks like a wolf hound and a great dane almost (both sweet dogs) or maybe some kerry blue terrier
I see Irish Wolfhound, Schnauzer and Boxer! Beautiful dog!
Schnauzer/lab. Maybe wolfhound.
Do not see any kind of pit bull in there. Definitely has some terrier in there judging by the coat/
I see a Whippet and a Kerry Blue Terrier mix
Greyhound, irish terrier mix?
He just looks like an Irish Wolfhound.
Actually, he makes me think of a Standard Schnauzer-X-Labrador Retriever.
I agree with Jenny Manyteeth.
Schnauzer mix.
The grey one
I think he looks like an Irish Wolfhound and a Schnauzer.
