is there medication for my dog?

my dog has recently not been able to stand up and when she eventually does she hobbles around she looks like she is in so much pain she is 8 and weights 50kg and is a rottweiler i am scared thaat when i take her to the vet they will tell us to put her down

please help: (
I have a 13yo Rotty. She's been on Glucosamine, Chrondroitin, MSM, Celery seed, Yucca and Green lipped Mussel extract for years. As a result she can still run like a pup, and jump 2m in the air (to grab rats off the chook house roof) with no ill effects. Please take your dog to the vet and get her some help. She doesn't need to be in pain.
There is a great pain medication called Rimadyl . You get that from the vet. You can also supplement her joints with glucosamine, which you can get from the market. When a vet reccomends euthanasia it is because he is judging on the animal's quality of life and prognosis. If the dog has no chances of getting better and is suffering then that would be the humane thing to do. It would be selfish to prolong her life and suffering only because you didn't want to part with her. Choosing euthanasia could be the kindest and most loving thing you could do for her when she is suffering. However, your problem is treatable so he most likely will not suggest putting her to sleep. So take her soon, this cold weather is terrible on the joints. Also give her a very padded bed to sleep on, so there is not a lot of pressure on her joints while she sleeps.
Take her to a Vet so he can determine what is wrong with her. Look at it like this, let's say she is suffering from old age, with a malady that can't be corrected with medicine. Would you want her to suffer? Obviously you love your dog, and it is hard emotionally to say good bye to a friend of the family. It is an emotional decision on your part. Do you want the dog to suffer, or send her to a better place? What if, your dog could talk and she said, "please end my suffering." What would you do? It is no different than a family member being kept alive on a machine. What if they asked you to pull the plug and end their suffering. Do you love them enough to do this as heart rendering at it is. i can't speak for you, but I know what I'd do out of love for my dog. I hope that I have been of some help to you, and especially your dog. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

The dog is yours. It is your decision to make.

The vet may put her on Rimadyl or similar anti-inflammatory. It may take 3-5 days to adjust the dosage for her level of pain. Give Rimadyl with food or Pepcid AC to avoid stomach irritation.

If there is enough pain the vet may also prescribe Tramdol. Tramadol is not expensive.

You can buy Glyco-Flex III online which will help replace the lubrication and cushioning around the joints. It takes 4-8 weeks for Glyco-Flex work.
Do you really want your dog to continue suffering this way? Vets have medicine that will help with arthritic pain that senior Rotties have. Just imagine the pain you would feel if you had a severely sprained ankle. Her pain is similar to that, but in her hips. It is cruel to allow her to suffer and be in pain . Be her loving companion and help her out. There is no certainty the vet will suggest putting her down. It is certain, though, that her pain will only get worse and worse.
No they wont have you put her down, they will give you meds to help with her pain and swelling of her joints, its more then likely arthritis which can be helped with medication, alot of older dogs and bigger breeds like that end up with it ... you can also visit a pet store and they have pills in there as well that can help ... good luck
She may have a hip problem, a disc problem, a spine problem, a knee problem ... that is something that the vet is going to have to diagnose. It may be as simple as medication or she may need surgery. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Depending on what the problem is - they may recommend it. But that doesn't mean you have to do it. However, if it is a problem that can not be fixed and she is suffering, that may be the best thing for her.

The only way to know is to take her in.
She may have arthritis, and needs some medication to help with the pain. Large dogs often get problems with their joints and hips. I would definitely take her to the vet. She probably has several good years still ahead of her, but it's up to you to make sure that those years are good, happy, healthy ones.
You are saying that your dog can hardly stand up and she is in a lot of pain and you are asking us what you need to do? Well, you need to take your dog to the VET.

Did she get like this overnight? I'm sure she has slowly not been able to walk well for a while now. She should have been put on Glucosamine and Chondroitin years ago. (And anti inflammatorys or steroids.) Please do not be neglectful ... get her some help. She really needs it bad. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Good luck and I hope she has someone take her soon. She'd take herself if she could drive.
The vet can prescribe medication

the vet wont tell you to "put her down" .. he may suggest it as an option, but he will also have other treatment options to suggest .. depending on her condition, finances, and what is available.
