how can i get my puppy to listen to me?

my puppy is 4 months old, german shepherd lab mix, and she will never listen. she thinks everything is a game and whenever i call her she just stands there and looks, then when i call her with a treat, she somehow learns the command . she does this for coming in as well, and i am just sick of it, i love her sooooooo much, bit i fear i may not have a choice in the matter of getting rid of her. PLEASE HELP !!!!
Think about a 2 year old toddler who speaks only Cantonese or Fijian. Ok - WHY should that toddler come to you?

YOU need to work out how to make yourself attractive to your pet.

Crouching, slapping your thighs, and using a high-pitched call are all aids. When she arrives, you MUST praise ("Good girl Patsy COME!" & Reward (rubs & pats are always available, tidbits & games such as ball-chase or tug-o-war take just a little preparation).

And you should be already booked in to a proper training club's weekly classes that will start when she is 18-22 weeks old (which is VERY close to NOW!), So that an experienced instructor can see & hear your attempts and your pet's responses (or lack of ...) then start coaching you. At the same time, Pup learns to pay attention regardless of what other dogs & people are doing. (Forget pet-shop play-groups.)

But yes, at present EVERYTHING should be a game to her - games focussed on YOU. That helps build her confidence as you familiarise her with every movement, reflection, scent, sight, sound & texture in your area.

Thanks for the points, voter.

It's a pity that [drek] wasn't interested enough to choose a Best Answer him/her-self, eh!

I have a 4 month old pit bull shepherd mix we had the same problem till I put a light weight 5 foot leash on her to wear around the house if I call her and she did not come I got the end of the leash and called her then pulled her to me and then gave a good girl and a treat. It took about 2 weeks and now we can be out at the dog park off leash and she comes. Another way is a dog whistle they are very affective. Hope this helps.
Tell her to "come" or "sit" with a treat in your hand, then give it to her & praise her when she does what you tell her to do. Eventually, she'll do it without any treat involved. Repetition, repetition, repetition! Since she's only 4 months old, it's normal. Try these websites.

You must have a different reason to get rid of her ...... all your dog needs is some training ..... shes still a puppy .... if u keep doing the treat thing an a "Good girl "when she does something u like n never get tired of it, she will learn ... take her to some obedience class
its ok shes only 4 months old. but she apparently responds well to treats so my advice is treats , treats, treats, and repetition, repetition, repetition. thanks-jaime
