Just curious about my five month old chocolate lab. Is he english or american Im just curious. He is my profile picture. Any insight would be very helpful. Also he has a white spot on his chest is that normal. Or does that mean he is mixed?
If he was born in the US, he's an American Lab. If he was born in England, he is an English Lab. There is only ONE Labrador Retriever ... your dog either conforms to the standard (
http://thelabradorclub.com/subpages/show ... ), which is pretty consistent regardless of country, or he does not. A small white spot is acceptable and does not indicate that the dog is mixed.
A small white spot on the chest isn't uncommon, but it is VERY undesirable and most pups with any white are culled. He's probably purebred.
English/show type Labradors are blocky, heavy, and wide and very calm, comparable to a Newfoundland. American/field type Labradors are racier, have sharply defined muscle and joints, and have the stamina to run and swim for hours. They're typically wild and occasionally uncontrollable duck-retrieving machines.

From that picture (which isn't much help, I must say) I'd say your dog is the all-too-common but virtually unacknowledged third type, the simple pet. Usually a blend between the extremes that are field and show, tending towards field though. They're what the backyard breeders pump out and they're what you find dozens of in the pound because they've retained plenty of a field-bred Lab's energy and stamina, making many of them bad for owners who don't realize how much activity they need.
Yeah, sorry, your pic of the dog is way to small to be able to tell that. If the dog is stalkier, shorter, and more squarish in shape, with a bigger squarish head, then he's english. Just look up the differences and take a guess for yourself
Well first of all the pic is about the size of a needle. And we can't tell you what it is - Ask your freaking BREEDER ! You should know this already, and if you don't, you got your dog from a Back Yard Breeder.
I cant tell if he's american or not, but the white spot is fairly common.
THERE'S NO SUCH THING!
