My puppy had an abcess lanced last nite and i picked him up

... After wiping, it drained, is this normal

it is on top of his head. I wiped it with a warm cloth like they told me to do, when i did this liquid and some slight blood started to drain out of the wound and he is acting like it is itching. is this normal
It's important to keep the area clean to prevent a risk to infection, but what you're seeing is perfectly normal. I expect the doctor prescribed some antibiotics as well? I don't see how simply lancing it will resolve it. But do expect to see a little pus and maybe some blood when you treat him. It's normal.

I hope he feels better!!
The thin bloody stuff is called serum, it's dead white blood cells and the fluid the body uses to cushion any wound. It's harmless. With an abcess you want it to heal from the inside out so keeping it open is good. It must not be too deep or they probably would have put a drain in it. I imagine it would bother him, he has a hole in his head. It's natural for him to want to mess with it but you should try to keep him from doing so, he could impede the healing.
yes. Many of the Katrina animals had infections and burns when they came out of New Orleans. Though, the wound is lanced. The infection still hasnt been resolved . The antibiotics and a few days will take care of this. The wound will heal from the inside out. The itching also is a good sign. Much like a human. But, the puppy has to refrain from scratching. The scratching will not help in wound healing. The warm cloth around the area three times a day will keep it clean and, remove the pus and crust from around the wound. But, what you see is normal in this type of surgical procedure. Watch for signs of the wound getting worse. Here is a link for additional info http://www.doctordog.com/dogbook/dogwoun ...
It sounds completely normal, that is why they are having you wipe it with a warm cloth, to stimulate any additional drainage. If you are worried, you should be able to call the vet to ask. The itching is just because he is aggravated by the whole thing, and that is his way of picking at it. Good luck!
well idk if u took him to a vet or not, but my cat got a abcess once and we took him to the vet he got sergery and then he got a cone put on his head (the abcess was on its side) and it didn't puss a lot but sometimes a lil blood did appear and the vet said that was normal
Just keep doing what your doing. You can put a pet friendly salv on it to stop the itching as well as soothes your little one's incision. Ask your pet store clerk if they carry any pet friendly ointments.
didn't the vet give you a list of instructions and what to watch for?

yes, its good that its draining but he may need a collar to keep him from pawing at it or rubbing it on furniture or the floor to prevent infection.
