Good companion dog for a Cane Corso?

We have a Cane Corso that does double duty as a house dog and guard dog for a ranch. Because of the work load here we don't spend nearly as much time with him as we would like. We are considering getting him a companion dog to escort him during the day.

We would prefer to not get another dog the size of a Cane Corso nor another guard dog. Is there a medium size breed of dog that would make an appropriate companion for him? Thank you.

OKAY - I'll try this again. NO CANE CORSOs please.

............- If I had more time for the dog he would get it. I work 10-12 hours here most days. Thank you.

You could get a golden retriever or a border collie. They are loyal common ranch dogs.
The answer to this question really depends on your dog. Has he been properly socialized so that he will not be dog aggressive. I'd hate to see a dog of this breed that is aggressive! Consider whether he gets along better with a male or a female. I'm not sure that breed has much to do with the right companion, so much as the two dog's personality and dispositions does.
If you don't have time for one dog, you won't have time for two. I don't know much about cane carso's. Well nothing honestly lol pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Is his job to protect livestock? If so you should have gotten a guardian breed.

I don't suggest getting another dog. He doesn't need canine companionship and some dogs don't like having canine friends.
Because * another * dog that * you wont * have time for is going to be PERFECT.

One is just enough, if you get another it's NOT fair to you.

ETA: Cane Corsos are property WATCHDOGS [NOT! GUARD ..].
Pugs are sturdy little dogs that have no idea that they are small dogs. At the dog park mine finds the biggest dog there and that is the one he wants to play with. His best friend is a dane/rottie cross and there is also a Cane Corso there that he plays with frequently .. They aren't yappers so it would not be annoying to your Cane. Most people overfeed their pugs so they are fat and lazy, but mine is very buff and quite the athlete. They are sensitive to heat and cold though, so if you live in a cold climate, it would need to be indoors at night and dressed for the cold outdoors during the day . I had a wolf before and that might make a good companion, too.
