Geman Shepherd or Pug?

  I have a farm.

Great living condition for either breed.

My wife wants a Pug. I have no problem with pugs, but can it keep up wit me !!!!!?????

Probably .... Ha.

Should I get a Shepherd instead.

I WV german shepherds. They are sooooooo beautiful !!!!!!!!
Why not both?:) If you can afford it of course. (Financially AND in terms of care and training)

Can a pug keep up with you? That depends on what you are doing. AND what climate you're doing it in.

Pugs have short coats, meaning that they aren't well-equipped for cold weather, and they have short muzzles, meaning that they are "inefficient panters" and are therefore at greater risk for heat stroke in warm weather. Plus, they are small and have short little legs:) which works great for chasing you around the house and yard and going for rides in the car, but if you're talking about several mile-long runs, then no, a pug would not keep up on foot. BUT they are very easily carried.:)

German Shepherds would be better equipped for warm and cold weather, and would make a great running partner. But you must keep in mind that with a larger, higher-energy dog like a GSD, several hours of daily exercise is not an option - it's a requirement. So is mental stimulation a requirement, ie. regular training sessions and * structured * exercise. Meaning that just letting him loose on a farm is not going to equal his daily exercise and mental stimulation ... unless you're OK with whatever he finds to entertain himself with (digging, chewing, chasing and killing small animals, just basically being destructive).

Good luck in your decision. Whatever you choose, if not rescuing a dog then make sure you are buying from a reputable breeder.

Get a border collie for yourself - Ranch bred working stock - Most times they rather stay outside and be a working dog to tend to their duty. Take him/her with you to work your farm ... And get a pug for your wife's indoor dog ... Pugs are pets, border collies are for working ...... German shepherds are great, and beautiful - But quite frankly the best ranch canines I have ever seen are border collies.
Well i have a bostonterrier and hei s closer to a pug obviously, and from my experience pugs and small short haired dogs like bostons and french bulldogs are great pets and very loving. They are cuddly and soft and they like to be as close to people as possible .. Even if it means making phisical contact somehow lmao, like mine keeps a paw on me when we watch tv! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I never had a pug, but i dont think it will be as athletic as a GS, but it will make a great pet!
Pugs wouldn't be the greatest dog for running around having fun on a farm. So i wouldn 't say a Pug for anything like that. They're fun INSIDE dogs. If you want one to be out in the field with you and having a great time get a German Shepherd. I have a 8 month old one and he's the best .
Depends. You say you have a farm. If you're the person who FARMS, then a pug isn't good, and won't be able to keep up. My pug sleeps an average of 12 hours a day . When he's awake, he goes out for a walk, pees, poops, and comes back inside for a nap.
I think u shud go 4 german shepard. Pugs get an eye infection very easily n itz vry difficult to cure.
Farm=GSD ...

How about getting both?:]

Not like you don't have enough space ...
German shepherd
Well, pugs are great but if you are really active get a GSD.
I would take a shepherd over a dumb, shedding machine pug any day. I vote German Shepherd
PUG
get both but they need vet care and training
