Can my puppy die because I bathed him after deworming?

I didn't know that he was dewormed by my parents, so I unknowingly bathed him so I can keep him in my room. The vet said that the puppy can only be bathed after 4 days or so.

The puppy seems to be depressed, and always lying down or sleeping. He usually cries when people leave him in a room. I don't know if it's normal. We would be having a family trip and I want to know if it's safe to leave him with a baby-sitter or bring him with us. I'm afraid that he might die. We've only had him for 4 days.: (
No sweetie, your puppy will be fine. They usually have you wait 24-48 hours after using a topical flea/tick prevention or topical dewormer (if it was a topical dewormer) and that is only so it can spread via the oil glands in the skin, making it more effective. Usually they use an oral dewormer so I am not sure what type was used but it will not hurt him to have a bath, it just might not be as effective or slower to spread across his skin. Please do not use over the counter flea/tick products as they have been known to cause neurological damage and are dangerous to some animals that have reactions to it. Get your flea/tick prevention from your vet, good ones are Frontline and Advantix, there is a new pill that can be given too so check with your vet . But a bath will not hurt him, just do not bathe too often as the skin will dry out. Please use a shampoo that is for use on dogs and not people shampoo. Your puppy is laying around because it is a sleepy growing puppy. If it does not have active periods of play or does not eat well or vomits or has diarrhea then that is something to have your vet check. But you did not harm it by a single bath. Happy puppyhood to you! Good luck!
First of all I have to tell you that I have had a lot of dogs and was a foster Mom for dogs/cats for many years .. I have never heard that a puppy could not be bathed after being dewormed I even went and looked in my information and on the net and can not find anything at all to support this. Your dog acting depressed needs to go to the vet, because worms can be in deeper into the intestines. You do know that it is safe to worm once a month for 6 months. but you do need to take him to the vet .. please keep me posted and ask about the bathing thing and why. Good Luck with your puppy :-)

If he's not showing any other signs he's fine.

Deworming shocks the system a little. The bath restriction is a precaution to not add any additional strain on him.

He's not depressed. He's just feeling the angst of being drugged for treatment.

He's mostly experiencing an upset tummy and a low grade nausea.

(At least that's the way they act to me.)

Really glad to see you worrying over it so much,

but don't over do it.

THAT might kill him ...

But I think he's perfectly safe with you.
No! He is not going to die because you gave him a bath. The deworming medication might make him sleepy and lay around, does he drink water and eat. If so, he is fine. Good luck and a puppy 8-9 weeks old will sleep all they can, they are like baby's they need their sleep to grow. OK?
don't worry about him dying. he's sad cause he misses his mom. put some of your dirty. underwear with him. he'll get use to your smell. don't leave alone when you go on a trip hold him and snuggle alot
ask the vet again and ask them if it is safe to take him
Go to the vet.
No, he is not going to die. The reason he cries when being left alone, is no different than if you were five and your parents left you alone. Dogs are social animals and they need to interact with people. Puppy's sleep a lot, however, you can interact with him by playing with him. Depending on your puppy's age he will bond to the person that feeds and cares for him. Your feeding him, interacting with him makes that bond. If you want to win the puppy's heart, take him with you, if you don't he will bond with the baby sitter. it is no different than if you were a child and this nanny was your care taker all the time. The child will bond with the person who cares for them, that is simple logic. Think about that, your mom isn't there that much, but your nanny is always there for you. Who do you think the child would grow up loving? It is no different with you puppy he is going to bond with who takes care of him. I hope that I have been of some help to you and your puppy. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
