no smell when expressing anal glands did i do something wron

It sounds like your just lucky, as long as the brown liquid came our your good to go ... I would just be thankful your dogs doesn't stink. I have 2 dogs and one stinks unbearably and my little female pug/boston mix has almost no smell ... oh and they always wanna lick it god only knows why
Taking her to a vet isn't a bad idea, I suppose. It's always a good idea to err on the side of caution.

However, nothing that you've said sounds strange at all. Anal glands don't always smell terrible ... in fact, most glands I've expressed externally as a groomer didn't have much of an odor.

While some dogs tend to start licking their backsides for a short time after having their glands expressed for the first time, it could also be a sign that there might be some irritation. Unless the licking is followed by redness or swelling, I don't see a reason why you need to rush to the vet ... however, making an appointment and making sure that everything is okay and asking to be taught how to express the glands, in case you actually have done it wrong, is a good idea .
Take to vet. You may have expressed glands incorrectly or too hard or there was already a problem before you did glands.
