She eats Chicken Soup for the Pet lovers soul dog food. I feed her 8 cups in the morning and 8 cups at night. She still remains skinny. She is very hyper and doesnt act like there is a thing wrong with her she just will not gain any weight. My mother has her sister and feeds her the exact same thing and the exact same amount and she is very thick actually too thick for a young dane and needs to be cut back.
She wouldnt eat at all for the first 2 months i had her i had to hand feed her and put canned food in it which only messed up her stool so badly that she went constantly and couldnt even hold it. I stopped the canned and she eats but never gains.
She may need worming or even have tape worms. Dogs with tape worms will eat large amounts but not gain weight. Another thought is it could be her thyroid. I would take a stool sample to the vet. and have it checked for worms and if that is negative then ask the vet. about thyroid.
Great Danes are mostly pretty skinny dogs. They have very high energy. So, her being a little skinny might not be a problem. But; if she is really skinny and you feel she may not be the right weight you should bring her to the vet and see what they say. You could also call your vet and ask them what 6 month old great dane puppy she weigh aproximently then you could see what your dog weighs and go from there. Hope I helped:)
you need to try and worm her and if that dont help get her dogfood with about 50% crude protein and 30% crude fat. you should really take her to the vet to make sure she doesnt have anything wrong with her.
I would consider worming her. Sounds like maybe she has worms. Contact the vet for a better wormer than store bought. While ur there make sure she has wormers.
see a vet
I sincerly hope you are NOT feeding her 8 cups in the am and 8 cups in the pm ... that is way, way too much food !!!!

How much does your Dane weigh? How tall is she? What is her breeding? What does her breeder have to say (hopefully you got her from a responsible breeder)???
A Dane puppy should be lean. The last 2 ribs should show. If she is not gaining any weight at all or if her hips & spine show despite eating good then she needs to see the vet and get a good thorough vet exam including a bloodwork up.
Chicken Soup is a very good food and you should only be feeding this pup 3 - 3 1/2 cups of this food am & pm (which is 6-7 cups daily) not 16 cups of food per day !!!!!
**** Hannah, Danes are NOT suppose to be a "skinny" breed. They are only suppose to be lean during their growth years. A Dane needs to be at a good weight neither skinny nor fat during adulthood. They need to have good bone & substance ******
It's possible that your dog's energy levels exceed even what you are feeding. I might look at a higher fat content to help her. Chicken soup for the pet lover's is an execellent food and I wouldn't change her from that. Perhaps add some fat or raw chickent backs with the fat on to help her gain some weight. You might just have to resign yourself to a high energy dog that burns off food quickly. My ridgebacks eat different amounts. My lower energy one eats 8 oz and my higher energy sibling eats 10. It's all about the dog. You might need to bump up the meals to 12 oz. or so. My ridebacks eat 2 cups minimum a day and they are only 70 lbs. If you have a large breed high energy dog you might need more.
8 cups of food in one meal is waaaay too much food. way too much. that is a deadly condition called bloat just waiting to happen . dogs, like kids have different metabolisms and some dogs just stay pretty slender. most young dogs of large breeds have a more angular, bony look to them than say, a 6 month old lab. i would find a slightly richer food and divide the meals into three a day with no more than 3 cups at each meal. if you turn over a bag of food and it says that a dog over 100 lbs requires more than 10 cups a day, its probably a lot of filler, grains, gluten , beet pulp, etc. a fecal sample to your vet may show she needs to be wormed but you must still find a way to feed you dog less kibble.
