How to make my puppy drink?

She is a parvo survivor, we put her in vet treatment for a week (which cost over 500 and was worth it:) after she got sick and tested postive for parvo. She seemed like she was on her deathbed, she wouldnt eat or drink at all, but after she got out of the vet she made a full recovery and is back to her old self again. Her apetite is great she loves the prescription puppy food they gave us but she isn't drinking enough water. She only laps a little so we've been doing the syringe giving her water and pedialyte, thats the only way we've gotten her to take fluids. We've been giving her the prescribed antibiotics and I was wondering if that could be making her queasy and not wanting to drink? What can we give her to make her want to drink? We are thinking maybe chicken broth or maybe mixing the water with the her food? Our vet is already wanting us to make an app. to get her parvo shot which I want to do as well because she needs to be protected asap but is it safe to do so soon? I'm wondering how long does parvo stay in a dogs system?
Ice cubes are fun.

If you pour water over the kibble, the pup should lap up the kibble broth.

Make the water smell enticing by mixing it with something that smells good. You'd surprised what dogs can smell - so mix some broth with the water. Do check the ingredients list on whatever you use. Get the pup's attention and mix it in front of him, pouring the good stuff into a half water filled bowl.

You can also get the pup to take in more moisture by throwing a tablespoon full of pureed canned pumpkin in with his food once a day. (Make sure it's ONLY pumpkin).

You can also give the pup goat's milk. You can get the condensed version in a can. I would mix it with water, so that the pup gets as much water as possible. Pure goat's milk will put on the pounds because of the fat content .

As to the parvo, it can take a while for a dog to recover. Your dog might be immune because she's had it. Get a titer test.
Maybe you can try some ice cubs. Its more like a play thing but cools their temperature quickly and also its water ...
Ice cubes and pedialyte. Cottage cheese for her to eat mixed in her food. Lamb & rice food
if she was my dog I would have her tittered before she got a Parvo shot - having survived the disease she should have greater immunity than most dogs that have had the shots and giving a dog with a very high immunity a shot disease that they have the high immunity for can be contour productive. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Meanwhile make sure that she is getting plenty of moisture it don't have to be from drinking - you also wan tot be careful to not give her to much salt with what you are giving her to drink - such as chicken broth - make sure it is unsalted.
When a dog has Parvo, they build up antibodies against it, so they wont get it again. Protocol, is to vaccinate 2-4 weeks after recovery. then another vaccination 4 weeks later. Try mixing water and canned dog food with her dry food. You could use the pedialyte instead of the water, to get her electrolytes back into balance. You have to be very careful syringe feeding the pup, that you don't get fluid in its lungs, causing pneumonia or upper respiratory infection. Good Luck! I'm sooo glad you took the pup to the vet!
