i personally love the breed its my favorite. What do you think about them??
People are afraid of them. It's not because they are mean or prone to violence. A chow has a higher chance of biting a person. A chihuahua has a worse disposition by averages. A pit bull just happens to be more powerful and able to cause more damage than other dogs on the off chance it attacks. Therefore it grabs bigger headlines garnering it more attention.
I love pit bulls they have always been loyal loving dogs to our family. They are good with my kids and i miss them very much. But .... they were bred for fighting so in my opinion they are kind of prey driven and they are not as good with other pets especially ones smaller then themselves but this is only some of them i have had several and all but 2 of mine werent friendly to all people and pets. i think that bad uneducated people these dogs and they are the ones that give them a horrible name.
I love them! My first dog is a Pit Bull when I was 6 years old. Yeah, they have a strong bite, but once you get to know them, you'll love them! I seriously don't get why dog people hate specific dog breeds when they love dogs.

I'm so tired of people hating them because of their reputation. Sure they are known to be dangerous but only if they aren't trained right. If you actually use your time well and be patient with them and train them while they're young they will turn out to be great dogs. So only get one if your up to the task of training them, because it will take time and patience. If you plan on getting one you need to be ready for a big commitment.They are also really loyal if the owner treated them right.
@ Dane, I don't know why looking like a mutt is a bad thing, because mutts are unique and there is nothing wrong with them. You shouldn't talk like its a defect. Plus pitbulls are trainable and can be handled I, ve seen tons of well trained ones. People just need to work on stopping those idiots who think they would be good for fights and the ones who think they can train them by themselves and sell them cheep as guard dogs when their method of training them is kicking them and not giving them food.
People who say that they're "terrible animals" have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. The same goes for Rottweilers. Yes, they can be very dangerous and harmful if they're TRAINED to be. I had a Rottweiler when I was a baby and he literally slept in the same bed as my cats. Same with Pit Bulls. They're highly intelligent and and very sweet. They only cause damage if their ignorant owners make them be.

They're not my favorite breed of dog but they're good dogs. Pit bulls can be wonderful pets if they are bred and trained correctly. Pit bulls are not bad dogs. It's the people who make them bad. Pit bulls are loving and caring pets.
I think half if them should be destroyed as to salvage the proper genetic lines, and I also think we should ban certain people from owning them because they do nothing but over -breed and fight them.
I feel sorry for most of them.
Just look at what all the ignorant breeders & owners have done to the Breed. It is very sad.

I think they are the most perfect dog you could ask for-goofy, silly, cuddly, athletic, beautiful and unbelievabley loyal ... truly mans best friend!

I love them with the right owners that are adopting them for the right reasons. I hate what humans have put them through in the past.

I think my answer will irritate most people, but oh well. Most people should not own Pit Bulls. They're not meant for your average dog owner. They've been poorly bred and sold for fifty bucks a pop, have horrible temperaments and look like mutts ( most of the time). Most owners do not properly train them and cannot control them. I would never recommend a Pit bull to anyone .... ever. I've never once met a nice one but have met plenty that chased me or tried to attack me while sitting on my front porch. My neighbor owns one and he drug her through the yard (trying to get to me) and broke her elbow. The next time I saw him he threw her across the yard trying to get to my 8 pound dog. I could go on and on. I hear this 'don't ban the breed, ban the owners' constantly. But that will never happen. There will always be crappy BYB out there selling these horrid, poorly bred pits to anyone with $ 50. They're already banned in areas around here and I'm sure soon - everywhere.
