Not sure but I think my chihuahua has an ear infection. She has been scratching for two days now. I only noticed because she wakes me up at night with the shaking of my bed while shes scratching. She has sharp nails and has opened a small wound and now it is crusted with dried blood and is pretty red. What should I do. Please help
Triple antibiotic cream, available at the grocery store or a local drug store, for the small wound.
Zymox, available online without a prescription, for the ear infection, It treats bacteria and yeast.
Keep her ears dry, especially after a bath.
Feed raw or a grain free food to avoid food allergies.
I have an itchy-eared Chi too. I find that doing an occasional ear rinse with a 50/50 mix of peroxide and water tends to clean out her issues and lasts for quite a while. I just use a medicine syringe to gently squeeze into her ear, massage, and then move away while she shakes:)

Outside of the other answers presented you, which are good answers, I also suggest that you put one of those dog collars on so she may not reach the ear. When she squats to scratch, the collar lies against the ears to a small degree. I also suggest you find out if she may have earwigs. Its a little pesky insect that makes the dogs scratch in the ear. They may be found at the base of the wound and dry blood. You can also go to a local pet store and see if they have any books for critters that affect dogs.
Gently clean her ear with a clean wash cloth or paper towel and water. Try to put some
antibiotic cream on it. Clean it once a day for the next several days and see if it improves. If it doesn't go to a vet at once. It could be ear mites, food allergies or something stuck down in her ear. You need a vet to distinguish the problem and help
her get better if the simple cleaning and treating doesn't work. I only suggest that you
put stuff on her ear because she can't lick it. She will get it on her toes and lick that so watch her after you put the salve on. If she shook her head and hurt her ear that way, cleaning and salve treatment may work. It is unlikely to work though.
im a big fan of saline rinses a few times a day for troubled ears. that, a nail trim and some neosporin on the wound may give you both a little relief for a day or two until you can get her to be seen. dogs dont frequently get ear mites so it could be yeast, bacteria, or a foreign object lodged in there.
you should probably take her to the vet right away. She could have an infection ear mites or even yeast in her ears. But she could also develop a hematoma in her ear which is not as common with up ears as it is in down ears but possible.
It could be an infection or it could be she has something in her ear that you cant see like a fox tail or cheat grass. Either way she needs to see the vet. Also cut her nails so she doesn't cause a wound from scratching and it gets infected.
You need to take her to an animal hospital. Its only going to get worse. Keeping it at home and trying to like let it brush over isnt going to do anything. It needs antibiotics.
I would take her to the vet and trim her nails.I hope I helped you.please awser my questions.
