I have a chihuaua/beagle mix im trying to potty train. I take him out every 2 hours but he still has occational accidents in the house. Am I doing it the right way or should I try something else and will he eventually learn with how im doing it. hes 7 weeks old by the way
A puppy must be taken into your garden/yard every hour, after it eats or drinks and when it wakes up after a nap. You should also take it out just before you go to bed, every time you see it eliminate you must praise your puppy. I use a catch phrase when my puppy has a pee, I say "get one" while it is urinating and "big job" when it passes faeces. If you do this your dog will pee on command when it is older. (Unless it's bladder is empty)
You should set your alarm and try to take your puppy out about twice during the night. If like me you are a heavy sleeper and you don't trust yourself to wake up, take the lazy way out. My puppy's sleep in the laundry room until they are toilet trained, during the day I dip newspapers into the urine which it has passed in the garden and put these on top of a thick pad of newspaper at night, they are drawn to this because of the smell and they will pee on this during the night. Nevertheless I go to bed very late and get up very early when I have a puppy.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Eventually your puppy will go to the door when it knows that it wants to eliminate. In spite of the fact that I leave newspapers down at night my puppy's are clean from an early age. However they are like babies, they have no control until they are older. Regardless of how diligent you are, your puppy could still have an accident in the house during the day, it you see it stooping or peeing, pick it up and let it finish in the garden/yard.
Potty training a puppy takes time. Sometimes weeks, sometimes months. Be patient and be consistent. Take him out every 2-3 hours like what you are already doing. Occasional accidents in the house are to be expected. Never scold your pup, don't hit it or yell at it or push its nose to their pee or poop like what some dog owner does. Use only positive reinforcement training. This is with the use of motivation and encouragement, with routine and repetition, with praises and rewards.
Its difficult to expect a young dog or puppy to hold it's urine or movements for more than a few hours. After all, how would you feel if your were chained to your favorite recliner and not able to relieve yourself when the urge came. This provides an opportunity to familiarizing the puppy with going out and going to the bathroom, since one can let the dog out every hour or so.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Be sure to create "KEY Word" that the dog will recognize each time they are let outside. The obvious one that I use is "Outside!" Everytime I let the puppy out. You will be amazed at how quickly they catch on to key words. My puppies grasped the outside keyword along with "upstairs" and "whose here". Each time I now excitedly yell "Outside!" the dogs come running.
Monitoring when the dog eats and how much it is drinking is also beneficial, since most dogs will have an urge to relieve themselves shortly after. Puppies will tend to eat and drink alot since their energy requirments are quite high, so visits outside should be often .

Hey
I have just trained my pup and pee pads help when he pees rub a lil pee on the pad and he will smell it and know to go there and when he does reward him with lots of affection and a treat or you could skip that and get him to go outside do this by every time he pees pick him up and place him outside point at the pee and say no loudly then let him out every 45 mins or so and if he pees out there give her lots of affection and a treat. He will get the idea eventually and will walk to the door and make some noise. It takes time but it works don't give up.

I am a dog lover and have three myself. Some dogs are a little harder to train than others. The best thing to do is praise him when he uses the outdoors with let him know he is a "good boy" and give him a treat or play with him as a reward. Dogs crave their owners love and attention, so they will be proud to make you happy once they know what it is they need to do to accomplish that. When your dog has an accident in your home, no matter how bad it makes you feel, you need to punish them with a stern voice "bad dog" and immediately put your puppy in a dog cage or a small convined area like a bathroom. This process can take a little while. I have a 4 year old Labrenese who learned in a few days and I also have a bulldog who is very stubborn to train and he took about a month where he needed to do his business. You just bneed to be stern, consistant , and make sure you praise him when he is using the outdoors. Dogs are very smart and like I said they live to please their owners. Good luck!!
I'm a dog expert so here is your answer. He's only 7 weeks old. So he is separated from his family. He doesn't know what to do. And, he can't help him self, he is only 7 weeks so it takes them about 2 to 3 months. Hope that helps
