okay my gf wants to get a dog we are both 18 have part time jobs and going to college. i have dogs of course and she hasn't she thinks their just all fun and games she doesn't know about having a puppy and potty training etc. she thinks they come trained and all that. She can't even keep he dog at her house so we have to keep it at my house and we already have 3 cats and 2 dogs and other pets. i keep telling her what about the vet bills because she thinks they are cheap tell her they are expensive if surgery and breed. she only has like 5 thousand dollars in savings but need to use that for something else. she seriously don't hink the dog will need surgery later on in it's life. how can i convince her to stop bugging me about wanting a dog when i will be the one taking careof it like all the time?
Ps-i dont even have money saved up for the vet bills nor food at least she can buy the food and all that but im worried about the vet bills.plus one of my dogs is jealous and m parents treat them like shet. They feed them human fod (junk food) i dont want them doing it to our dog bt i know they will -.-". i an take care of the dog it's just the vet bills
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com So how much do you think is enough for the vet bills for starters i mean like how much should i have saved up incase it needs to go to the vet right away. PPS-my gf just told me she bought dog stuff for the dog> ;-<"
Thank you for being responsible. If your GF is not listening to anything you're telling her, it's unlikely anything you say is going to stop her from bugging you about it. Just say "No" ; and that it's not negotiable and you don't want to discuss it.
Think about whether someone who has their head in the clouds, is impractical, doesn't listen to those with more experience, and is willing to subject a living animal to substandard care due to lack of a budget is someone you want to be making a commitment to. This won't be the only subject that will produce this behavior. What will you do when she decides she wants a kid and compromises your birth control method?
Refuse to keep the dog at your house. You have enough going on there already.
If she wants a dog then she has to be completely responsible for it. End of story.
Honesty? Stop holding her hand. She's 18 and needs to start acting like an adult. She can't keep a dog at her home ? Well oh well she can't keep it at your home either. I would really reconsider a relationship with this girl and don't even THINK of moving in with her.

She's a child who doesn't want to grow up. Don't take on her responsibility. If she gets mad let her.
NO DOG. You have two why can't she be happy with that? Unfortunately, I bet she's gonna be the type to want to buy a dog so lets say 200 $ dollars, if not adoption fees are usually 50-100 $. Then your first vet bill for shots, parasite exam, dewormer may be around 150 $, then boosters every month for the first 3 months so that's about 75-100 $ each month x 3 so, 300 $. Then food, crate, ect., aboout 100 $. Then at 5 months time to spay or nueter so that can be about 200 - 300 $. And let's say he gets sick, being that its around the holidays, he eats choclate or something that could be another 200-300 $ hoping you don't have to go the vet ER becuase that doubles the price. So, just in the first 5 months of ownership you could be looking at 1,200 $. I'm sure thats money you both don't have to spend. And if she thinks skipping out on any of that will make it better, then she has elected herself as being a BAD pet owner that wants a dog, but chooses not to take responsibility for it. Owning any pet is a privledge not a right. Letting her keep HER dog at your house should not be an option because that already is not taking responsibity and unfortunately passing her responsibility to you which can cause a break-up and may leave you stuck with a 3rd dog that you didn't want in the first place.
Part-time job and part-time college means NO TIME for a dog. A new puppy needs ALL of your time.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I'm sure that you have good intentions, and you want to make your girl happy ... but this idea of hers is ridiculous. You have to sit her down and explain to her:
1: A new puppy needs to be taken outside to potty EVERY HOUR, on the hour, almost 24 hours a day. It does get less later on, but one "accident" in the crate can mean months of extra potty-training work .
2: A puppy requires training and play, in intervals ALL DAY LONG, if you want it to be a decent, well-mannered dog.
3: Puppy shots are given every 4-6 weeks. Then the spay/neuter. And the microchip. Call your vet and ask how much each trip will cost you over the next few months.
4: You already have 4 animals, and you are working part-time and doing school part-time. Maybe instead of bringing another animal home to-neglect-, she should take your current pets out to dog-training classes or dog parks, or something that will benefit them. Since she loves dogs sooo much.
