I have a chihuahua who is 9 years old, and has now started pooping on the couch. I've tried everything to make her stop, but nothing is working. She's never done this before, and she's trained to go outside. She normally tells me when she has to go, too.
Could this be age related or is she just doing it?
Any advice to get her to stop?
Thank you.
I would revert back to basic puppy training. Take her out after she eats. Try to wait until she poops after eating. When she does poop outside, give her lots of praise, a treat, and time with you inside supervised only. When you can't watch her, then I would recommend crating her. Now, if she has never been crate trained, don't stress her out if she is not used to that. She is 9 years old and may not be at all willing to be crated if she has never been before. Also you may want to try a gated play yard. She can play, eat, sleep in there and you can know she is safe and not pooping while you are doing everyday chores in the house.
Is her poop normal? Diarreah? Are you leaving her for longer during the day? Does she poop while you are in the room or when you leave? She could be punishing you for changes in the house so keep that in mind. If she continues , I would take her for a check up to make sure that she is healthy. At least you would have piece of mind.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Good luck you and i hope this helps a bit:)
Yes, there is a good chance it is age related. Talk to your vet and see if anything can be done from that end (pardon the pun). Watch the food intake and try to get a feel for the dog's "poop cycle". Keep on a very stable diet to help control that cycle and hopefully you can ensure the dog is out at the right times. Otherwise, kenneling the dog when you aren ' t there (for short periods of time) then tethering the dog to you when you are can prevent the dog from wandering to the couch to do the business. It's a technique used for training difficult puppies but not sure you want to do that for what could potentially be several years. Don't punish her whatever you do. That will just teach her to find a better place to hide.
It could be age related yes but if there has been any new changes in the house new dog cat baby anything really that may be stressing her that may be the root to your problem. Best way to stop it is crate her when you can, t supervise her.
Keep her off the couch. Try using tinfoil on the cushions, the crinkling sound scares some dogs when they touch it when you leave her alone. When home dont let the dog on the couch either, she doesn't deserve to be on the furniture if she doesn't respect it.
beat her *** with newspaper.
i think she need sa vet, she may have lost all feeling in her back end and cannot help it
