Hi,
My family and I are thinking of getting a bichon frise. Is it possible to maintain the grooming of a bichon by yourself? Not a show coat, just a regular one. Thank you
Of course! Go to pet store and buy shampoo , hair conditioner, liquids for eye and ear cleaning etc. Take your dog to groomer and ask him to show you how to bathe, blow dry and cut properly. There are also many web-sites which explain how to groom a Bichon.

Yes, it's possible.
However there's a lot more involved than picking up some electric clippers and shearing away. You must know basic body structure so you know what you're cutting. You must know basic first aid in case you nick or clip something you shouldn't have. You need to know the danger zones. You need to know how to handle and possibly restrain a dog. I would also suggest getting to know the breed cut (or at the very least different versions of the "puppy cut") so you know what general shape you're going for.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Keep in mind that a professional groomer will spend anywhere from three to four hours on a dog. Maybe even more. Professional groomers have tools at their disposal that a general dog owner may not want to invest in (such as a forced air dryer or special dryers you can connect to a cage to make dry time for a dog simple and fast.)
If you really want to invest the time and money into home grooming, first pick up a few books and read. Talk to a couple of groomers. Keep in mind that grooming is a fairly stressful situation - i would NOT suggest a novice groomer work on an animal that has never been groomed before because there is a LOT that one can do wrong to make the animal fearful (which can lead to behavioral problems in the future.)
The first several grooms should be done by someone who is calm, confident, and experienced.
Yes I am a guy and I learned how to groom my Standard Poodle and he is normally in rather long of a coat if I can learn anyone can. If I was you I would ask your dogs breeder for a couple lessons as nothing beats a good mentor. Next you can buy a book or research the internet. Also I would buy a table that I could use for grooming and a good hands free dog drier and professional clippers they will last a lifetime and make it less of a chore.
You can get all the supplies at a pet supply store, PetCo or Petsmart are two good places for that sort of thing. You can get instructions on the internet or via a book or magazine from the same place. It's possible, but you have to be willing to put in the work.
It is possible to groom any breed yourself provided you take the time to educate yourself in how to do it properly and you don't have some sort of disability that prevents you from doing it
yes!
