Full time jobs and dog ownership?

How in the world do people do it!?

I go into work at 7pm and leave work at 3:30 am five days a week and am currently trying to figure something out that works for me and my dog.

So for all of you full time workers and doggy owners ... What does your schedule look like? Do you get help from anyone? And if so then from who? (Dog walker, friend that comes over, family, spouse, so on and so forth)
Unless you have a puppy, what is the problem? And you work overnight, the dog will just sleep when you are at work. I work Monday to Friday 9 to 5, half an hour to get there and half an hour to get back, total 9 hours. I walk the dog before work, let the dog in the backyard when I get home, after dinner I take him for a walk, and before bed, a pee in the backyard. On the weekends I try to plan at least one really great walk or hike in addition. I live by myself, I get help from no one.
Well, I have worked various schedules the worst (from the dog's POV) was my 3 day work week .. Where I left at 8:00 am and didn't get home until 10:00 pm. Fri-Sun. (I was off Mon - Wed and worked half an additional day every other week) I have two large dogs - a pit and a GSD cross. The answer for me was litter training them. I live on a 2nd floor apartment. I got one of those pooch potty things (plastic tray w/astro turf) and put that out on my balcony and put in a doggie door. I'm pretty active on my days off and there was lots of hiking and on those days.
That is what I was trying to figure out until I switched shifts. If anyone asks here on Y! A " What kind of dog should I get if I work full time? "everyone tells them not to get a dog. Hm. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Anyway. I don't work "full time" but I still work about 7-8, sometimes 9-10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. I also go to class (college). I used to work days , and so did my partner. So, it was tough deciding whether we would have time for a dog. After we fell in love with Lua, we decided to switch our schedules around so that someone would be home all the time. Now, I work morning shift (usually 5AM-1PM) and she works day shift (3PM-11PM). It works for us. We do still get to see each other, and Lua is only ever in her crate for an hour at a time on Tues & ; Thurs since I have class when Mandy is at work those days. The only other times she is in her crate is if we have to go shopping, go out to eat, etc.
I work 7:30 to 4:30 5 days a week. My daughter goes to college 2 days and works the other 4. My husband works full time.

I go home at lunch and let all the dogs out. I have the privilege to work for a company which allows animals and children. All of my puppies have been housebroken, socialized right here at my work. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

If I could not do this, I would never have 9 dogs and I wonder sometimes: Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I am fortunate (?) To have an adult child still at home, but having two dogs helps, as does the fact that I am close enough to home to pop in at lunchtime.

But I work a second job in the summertime and without help, my dogs would be home alone from 730 am to 11 pm some days. If it weren't for my daughter at home, that wouldn't be possible.
I have always had to dogs. currently i have a 3 month puppy and an 11 year old one. my husband and i both work from 7-4. we leave a tv on so they hear the voices from it and have them trained that if the need to go to go to an area in our basement (you could use papers or pads). the puppy is caged when not home so he cant eat our furniture or get hurt when we arent here. he actually hold it now til we get home . if he does have an accident i just clean it! hope this helps.
I did in the beginning. Small pups cant hold it for 8 hours ... adult dogs, after they are trained ... can.

My schedule was 8am - 5:30 pm. Dog was walked and fed before I left for work. My neighbor walked him again at around 10am. I came back for lunch at 12:30 ish. My daughter got home from school at 3ish and walked him again. And then I was home after work.

End result ... a housebroken and crate trained dog with less than 5 total accidents in the house ... ALL OF THEM my fault.

at about 8-9 months of age ... I could easily leave my dog in his crate from 8am till 3pm .. no problems. Now he gets free roam of the downstairs and sleeps until my daughter gets off school and takes him outside to pee
I was able to come home at lunch time and let the dogs out .. I only had at that time the GSD's and I knew they could hold it from 7:30 am -12:00 pm amd then my daughters were home from school at 3:30 pm to let them out again ..

When I got my small dogs I was no longer working, as they need you home more often .. more potty breaks ..
i work 3pm to 2am. My dog is alone during that time. I feel bad for him, but i have no help after my ex moved out. i know he barks out the window and jumps on the couches. other than that, he hasnt had any problems. i just make sure he gets lots of love and attention when im home.
I'd like to know too! I'm a teacher so go to work at 7:30 and get back at 4. When my dog was a pup I used to go home during recess to walk him. I really don't know how doggie parents who don't get home until 6 do it!
