So this is based of aq from last night and a sprinkling of answers that pop up from time to time.
Why do kids (general) think they can just show up with a dog after their parents have said no OR haven't given them a final answer and that everything will be ok? Is it because they have parents who are in other ways permissive or because they HONESTLY believe people are not capable of having some cute puppy shoved in their face and still saying no?
For those who know better: If you brought a dog/puppy home after your parents had made it very clear that there would be no dog new or otherwise what would have happened?
For those WITH kids: Would you reward your child's act of disobedience with allowing them to keep said puppy/dog or would you make them take it back on top of whatever other punishment you might hand out?
And yes I know this has amazing worked for some users on here, that does not mean all parents are like yours, or that you should even hand out such advice.
It's guilt tripping. You can't just turn your kid down after they bring home a cute little puppy, right? The kid might run away or call the cops on you or something.

I've never brought a new dog home without permission ... my dad would have skinned me alive if I did that.
As a kid, I really wanted a kitten. My parents said no. I got one from a friend and brought it home anyway. My parents took it back to my friend's parents, apologized, and explained that they had told me no. I was grounded.
As a parent ... If my son brought home an animal, after I had told him "No," I would probably return the animal or find another home for it. Disobedience shouldn't ever be rewarded, as much as I love animals.
I begged for a dog for years when I was little, but never even thought about bringing one home without my parent's permission. Reason being, that dog would go right back from where it came from. If my kid ever tried that, I would do the exact same.
I don't even know how kids get ahold of dogs-shelters don't allow children under 18 to adopt. Even scummy pet shops won't let you buy pets without your parents there.
No idea. I think some kids just think they can get away with anything. I think if a parent doesn't enforce their rules 100% the child will not respect their wishes. I know my child will not have free access to a computer where they can ask questions to strangers in the first place ...

Personally, when I was a kid if I tried that crap, I'd have a foot up my butt and the dog would be rehomed immediately.
I don't have kids yet, but my kid would be in deep trouble.
Maybve its because in movies and junk the kids see the children do things like that in movie after movie and several shows they watch so maybe they just think it would work for them to? my mom would kill me if i did that.maybe they just see a cute puppy and think that the adult will have the same reaction they did wen they saw it. maybe they just werent thinking
If I brought a dog/puppy home my mother would have thrown it out of the door ... while kicking both its and MINE As $ $ $ 44 all at the same time ... so I knew better! I had to beg for a damn goldfish and still got a NO
I have a kid and mine knows me well enough to where this is NEVER going to be an issue ... lol
If I did that my *** would have been kick from one side of the house to the other and back again, no means no in my house. The Puppy would have been rehomed right then or turn over to the shelter. The pup would not be returned because they shouldn't have giving a pup to a kid.
For kids - - If parents say no ... there is a reason ... one they dont think its the right time ... 2 they cant afford it ... 3 they dont have time for a dog ... 4 some other reason ..

Overall its the parents choice. If they say NO ... they No is the answer.
I also am very annoyed at the questions, how to talk my parent into letting me get a dog.

Parents are parents, they will always love you
First, I would NEVER disrespect my parents. No, means NO! And I would not dare cross that line! That is how I was raised and how I raised my children.
The exception to the rule would be; an extreme emergency, if and only if, I was not reachable and the dog was injured, lost, it was dark outside and leaving it would be fatal to that animal. However, it would be brought home , knowing damn well, it was a brief resting stay until it would be brought/given to the humane society or a rescue and they would not even ask to keep the dog.

They would be commended for their kindness and effort, their reward would be that they were able to help/save an animal's life, but still not allowed to keep the dog. At best, if we had a friend who was interested, the dog would be re-homed to them, AFTER a found ad had been run in the local paper for 3 days!
