Ones that appear to be abandoned and may be in danger? Would the police help and try to get the dog? There was a loose dog that seemed to be abandoned but it's a very popular area for hunters so it could have just gotten separated and lost . People were trying to get him for about a week and they couldn't. The State Police finally got the dog and picked him up. Would police in your area help with them?
the only time they might do anything about a loose dog is if the dog seems to be a threat to humans.
otherwise .. that is what the dog warden/pound is for .. they catch stray dogs.
Not in my area they wouldn't. They have way too much crime to deal with. Unless, some particular officer did help on his/her own time. Even animal control out here would possible try, also depending on the individual officer involved. With so many people losing their homes, and abandoning pets, they already have more than they can reasonable deal with. Even pet rescuer groups are having real financial problems nowadays, and have more and more pets in need of homes.
The police are animal control here.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I don't call the police for animals though. That's how you get dead cats and dogs. Cops don't know animal behavior and if they feel threatened, they will shoot to kill.
There's a loose dog here, stray, shy. I'll catch him on my own instead of risking some cop misreading the dog. It's big and black. Very scary to ignorant dog people.
Trust me .. if there were something important going on those policemen would not be there.
i live in a realivly low crime area and the police here never have much to do (when one little thing happens the entire police squad shows up) so i'm guessing if they had an opportunity to actually do something usefull and helpfull and stengthen their relationship with the public then yea, of course.
The police in my area are too busy pulling people over for broken headlights to do much of anything else. They don't even go after speeders. Just headlights, taillights, and cracked windshields. They would call animal control.
not likely, i could not even walk by a k9 cop without it trying to attack my dog ... it took two cops to control the stupid thing ... i do not think that is what cop dogs are trained for ...
No. They could care less. The only time they respond is if the dog hurts a human.
i dont believe so. they would just report it to animal control.
Not unless they were right in the area at the time. Even bored they aren't going to do animal control's job.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Burning down: Its a VET not a shelter. They aren't required to house lost dogs and I wouldn't expect them too either.

Again they don't HAVE to. Telling you to turn the dog loose was callous I'll give you that, but they didn't have to take the dog in and they certainly didn't have to take the dog to someone else.
but hey I wouldn't have stood around arguing with people who didn't want to help. I would have asked WHERE I could take the animal after checking for a microchip and then left.
