my dog ran away 3 days ago and I didn't think it would really affect me because she irritated me so much by nipping at people and being just generally a grumpy dog, but she was kind of handed down to me by my dad, so i guess I was a lot more attached to her than I originally thought ... well anywho, she never came back and she normally would if she took off, within hours ... I hear her barking etc. when I take walks and wonder if someone in my neighborhood picked her up I have put ads out etc. but no luck ... any suggestions on how to get over it? Even if i don't get her back I'm happy she's alive & not dead. ((yes we searched extensively, she didn't get hit))
It's sad I know. I had an awesome pit bull named Brutus that was stollen a couple years ago. I still haven't gotten over it. He was my best friend. I don't think I ever will get over it.

Nice that you've allowed your dog to roam the neighborhood. There is a leash law, and you can be fined. Why, if you hear the dog barking, not go and retrieve the dog. You can show proof of ownership by having the microchip scanned by your vet. There is no excuse to not check the pound. The pound would have called you after they checked for the microchip. Certainly you have a friend, relative, or neighbor who can drive you to your local shelter .
Call the pounds. Call the vet offices. Call EVERYWHERE. Post ads EVERYWHERE - DON'T GIVE UP! It's only been 3 days!!

Find a friend to take you to the pound. If the dog is so important, don't let it just wither away in the pound .. find a way to check!! Call!!
You end up getting used to it . My dog went missing for several weeks once. We had just gotten used to her not being there when out of the blue someone responded to my craigslist ad saying they had her. It was actually kinda weird having her back again after so long being gone . But honestly I can't really tell you how. I cried for several days off and on and then it just stopped.
Good luck, I hope you find her!
Awee this is sad and I am so sorry. Try to go in the vicinity to where you hear the dog barking. If she should get loose if somebody has her Im betting she comes running back to you.
have you tried the closest dog pound near you? to get over the dog I guess you have to give it time .. but sorry for the loss ..
If you hear her barking follow the sound/direction. If you can actually hear her she can't be to far and you should be able to find her.
I'm very sorry i really know how you feel.My dog his name is scruffy or was.He was 16 yrs. old, he was Laos-shicsoo, (sp) is wrong (sorry). I love him more than life but i had to put him down and i still hear him getting a drink of water. I see him and i know its my imagineisoni see like blurrs. So how to get over your dog one day at a time thats the only way. Then after its less and less get a dog again go to the pound the dogs need all the love there is. Scruffy has been in heaven 9 mos. But im too old to get another now i feed woopee next door she visits me and even scrathes at my door.
Heya,

If you don't have a car and shelters are closed at the time you can get to them then collect all the shelters numbers near your area and give them a call to find out if they have found her, You need to hurry up with calling shelters as she could be re-homed if no one claims her or classed "dangerous" - shelters do that ALOT! due to her nipping at people so you need to give shelters a call really quickly, Don't give up on her yet , Try all your options first.
If you never find your dog then missing her so much should go away with time - Your never forget her no one ever does. But its the way the world works, Time is a great healer.
Good Luck!
