Shes been eating her weight in the neighbors black walnuts that drop in our yard and she was sick earlier this week threw up but then she seemed better. I noticed shells of walnut in her poop and today she had some blood around her anus do you think it was just the shells going through her? I hope my dog will be ok please let me know what you think
Thanks
Black Walnuts are potentially TOXIC!
SMALL amounts of the hulls are used for a SHORT term/periodically,
as a parasiticide --- WHEN NECESSARY.
Sharp objects like broken walnut hulls can cut open the dogs alimentary canal... THey may very well be the cause of your dog's bleeding, so you should either keep your dog out of that part of the yard, or, keep the falling walnuts all swept up & out of your dog's reach.
In the mean time, CALL a Veterinarian to find out what you can feed her to cushion her alimentary canal --- if that is even possible now. (For SOME things they recommend canned pumpkin (NOT the type for pie filling, though). The vet may have several better suggestions, as well...
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Black Walnut is toxic to horses as bedding, and I think I recall reading that it is toxic to dogs as well, but haven't been able to locate that article...

TY4BA. .. I found some info about the cause of toxicity of walnut hulls to dogs:
"Walnuts are prone to developing molds that may be toxic in dogs. Such molds produce a mycotoxin that is commonly found in walnuts that fall off the tree in the fall and are exposed to rain.

If 'BWs' were eaten within '2' hrs a vet may induce vomiting. Dogs eating 'BWs' are oft treated symptomatically, with variable prognosis, depending on amt eaten & time lapse btwn symptoms & treatment. They could cause intestinal blockage. Their molds quickly cause neurological signs/death. Report Abuse pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Shells are hard to digest - also she might be allergic to nuts.
I would contact the vet about her bloody anus because that is never normal.
If it gets to be a problem you can kindly ask your neighbor to keep his walnut tree from reaching onto your property.
Dogs can't have walnuts. They can't have grapes, raisins, onions, and a handful of other stuff. they can't digest certain things and it's toxic in their systems. look up some stuff.
