My Dog Is Sick? I Need Hlep Please.?
Okay My female husky is sick again, she is bleeding and it is not from being in heat she way to old to be in heat and all. i forgot what the name of the sickness is and i was hoping someone could help me out. It a sickness that older female dogs get when their not fixed. I know it starts with a P. But i forgot what it was. and we've always taken care of her and all. so its not because were bad owner's or anything. we will be taking in her to the vets again, but i would just like to know what its called before i go in there to see if it's the same sickness she had last time. does anyone know what it's called?
answer: It sounds like the illness you are talking about is called Pyometra. It will happen in some older female dogs that are not spayed. Pyometra is caused from a build up of fluids in the uterus which is producing too much of the hormone progesterone. This will then cause cysts to form in the lining of the uterus. This will increase the size of the uterus and it will start to leak fluid, which will cause bacteria to form. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
If the dog does not get treatment for Pyometra, the female dog's cervix can rupture, causing severe pain and even death.
The most common treatments for Pyometra is surgery, to spay your dog, or antibiotics and other medications. The best recommendation for your dog, to prevent the disease from happening again is to get your dog spayed. If you are not breeding your dog, spaying is best for the sake of your dog's health. If you choose the treatment of antibiotics and other medications, it may clear up the infection and Pyometra, but your dog will get it again.
Medications are just a temporary cure for Pyometra. If your dog is healthy and has no heart problems, it really would be best to spay your dog. It is a minor surgery and your dog will be the same loving dog she has always been, and she will never get Pyometra again.
Another important reason to spay your dog is that it will prevent your dog from ever getting ovarian and cervical cancers. So your dog will live a healthier and longer life. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I know you want to help your dog. Talk to your vet about spaying your dog or treating her with antibiotics. Your dog is in pain and the sooner she gets treated by a vet the sooner she will feel better. Do what is best for the sake of your dog's health. I hope she feels better soon.
Best of luck. Hope I helped,
1st no such thing as "too old to be in heat" Dogs don't go through a canine version of menopause. So long as she is intact she will continue to have her heat in one form or another. more spaced out but she will have it
2nd if she has Pyometra you need to go to the VET NOW. And if she had pyometra before why was she not spayed? the only other method is antibiotics -more risky and pricey and only worth using on a ***** who is a serious part of a breeding program.
If it's Pyometra it needs to be taken care of FAST. Not to scare you but it is a killer if left alone too long. Don't wait. Get her in ASAP.
It is called Pyometra. This condition involves an infection in the womb resulting in green or red thick discharge. This is a serious problem that may require surgery. Ask your vet about this.
Pyometra ? Thats the only sickness that comes to mind ... Hope i helped :) x
