Why doesn't my dog eat a lot of his dog food (Taste of the Wild)?
He was on a dog food with corn and all that other bad stuff. I thought it was time for a CHANGE! He's been on his new dog food (Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream Canine? Formula with Smoked Salmon) for close to two weeks already. When he was on his old dog food he'd eat a lot of it. When he eats Taste of the Wild, he only eats a little and drinks some water then walks away. Or he'll eat some, drink some water and eat some more. Is this normal? He usually does not eat a lot of the dog food like he did his old dog food.

(I'm worried if he is getting enough to eat, he is an 85 pound dog). Could it be because this food is of higher quality? I've also changed him to a schedule where he eats three times a day. He is 10 years old. He has never been on an eating schedule in his 10 years of life. He also will not eat on his scheduled time certain days, either. He waits until he wants to eat. (I guess that is normal, you can't force him to eat if he just doesn't want to. And I wouldn't do something like that anyway.)

I feed my dog three times a day and I wait four hours in between. It's been like that for a week now. Is that a healthy way to feed him? For example: 1:00, 5:00 and 9:00 PM. I get up around 12:30 and go to sleep around 2:00 AM. (I know, it's odd. I need to adjust my sleeping schedule.) Sometimes I feed him plain cooked chicken, he loves it. We also take long walks everyday.

I'd just love to know if it is normal for him to eat his food like that? And am I doing everything right?

Thank you!

Taste of the Wild is actual food, very rich and high quality! The old food had corn & fillers in it, so it took a lot more food to fill him up, and feel full! My friend has an English Mastiff that weighs 165 pounds and ate Iams for the first 18 months of his life! I FINALLY talked her in to feeding him a better quality food, so she got Taste of the Wild, and she was convinced that "Charlie" did not like it because he was hardly eating. She said the first 2 bowls he gobbled up quickly, then started eating slowly & very little. Long story short, this is common, the better food is filling them up with good things and they are full! He went down from 9 cups of Iams a day, to 4 cups of the TOTW. You may want to take your dog in for a check up to make sure everything is OK, so you can put your mind at ease, but I really think it is just the difference in quality!! Good Luck & hope I helped!!

If not he might just not like it.
My dog is spoiled so we have to put this gravy stuff on his food or meat under his food so he eats it.
Salad dressing is good too
TOTW is more potent than your former dog food, so he doesn't need to eat as much.

If he is not losing weight, then he is getting enough to eat.
Sounds like the new food fills him up faster.
My dogs are very picky, and when we had to change there dog food, they would hardly eat it, until we switched back to the brand and kind they were use to. Your dog may simply just not like the new type of dog food you have bought because of the drastic taste difference and different texture. Some animals are just picky, my two older dogs hate when there is a change in dog food, as to where my younger dog acts spoiled, and if she eats the same type of food for too long she'll quit eating it, so you have to change what you feed her.
