My GSD not gaining weight?
My 8 month old German Shepherd Dog is pretty slim even though he eats 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups at night. He is currently on Solid Gold so I doubt its the food. I am paying over $60 dollars a month and a half. He has been checked for worms and nothing. Vet said he is fine but a little slim but not to worry until he is fully mature at about 2 years old. I have seen other 8 month old GSD and they are all chubby but mine! Is there anyway I can make him gain a few pounds? Just like 5 or so...
feed more, but it easier to bulk up than take the weight off when he is to fat.
just don't worry about what the others look like and take care of yours. listen to your vet or get one you will listen to.
hmmm....yes quite...i see......hmmm.....yes.....this coulds be a problem....hmmm...yes....feed him lots of fried food, ice cream, chocolate, bacon, and dog biscuits, you know...the works, thats what i feed my pet horse and hes fat as ****!! trust me...im goin places, ill publish a book and get rich and ****...yeah maaaan....oops....gotta take a ****, but listen to me...mmmmkay?

They're supposed to be lean. Don't compare him to other dogs, as long as you can't see his ribs, his weight is fine
Trust me, keeping him on the thin side while he develops is *much* healhtier for him. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
We are so used to seeing overweight dogs, that we no longer know what a healthy dog looks like.
If your vet says he is fine, then stop worrying.

Don't forget the breed standard for a male is 66-88lbs. At 8 months he is almost the weight of a full grown standard male.

Stop worrying about muscle. Give him proper exercise and nutrition and allow him to develop naturally.
It's definitely a LOT better for a growing puppy to stay slim than it is for them to be a little chunky. It eases the stress on their bones and growing joints. DON'T try to make him gain weight unless he's seriously underweight. A few pounds is FINE. He shouldn't look like an adult until he IS an adult.
First things first. The food you are feeding has to go. If you want your dog to be healthy and grow and the right rate you need to invest in science diet or eukanuba. Stick with large breed puppy formula. This provides your puppy with the extra nutrients he needs as his bones are growing faster than his brains. Stay away from off brand high protein diets such as blue buffalo and things like that. Stay away from natural diets as well. If you were to talk to an actual vet you would know that 95% of veterinarians, and their assistants, feed their pets science diet. Yes it is a little more expensive, but you will notice a huge difference in their coat, energy, and appearance. Also keep in mind that we are so used to seeing our pets overweight, most of us have almost forgotten what a normal healthy pet looks like. Be sure to keep him on heartworm preventative and see your vet regularly for check-ups. Trust me, I've worked at a vet office for 5 years now and I have a lot of experience when it comes to this kind of thing. Also the odds of your puppy being overweight are highly unlikely. Puppies, like babies, naturally have a fat reserve that serves a purpose. So switch him to a better food and I guarantee in 3 weeks you will notice a huge difference.
