How to help with my dog's horrible flea problem?
I have a Shih Tzu and a Yorkie. We took the Shih Tzu to the groomer's once a month, and he would play with other dogs there. I found a flea on him one day, and I knew it was all over. Those fleas got passed to my Yorkie, who suffers even more. He's younger, and he has so many fleas it's insane. He also pulls out the hair on his back legs while trying to relieve the itch. I feel horrible, and my mom is threatening to give them away (as soon as they have a problem). I hate seeing him with blood and scratches all over his body so much. I have no idea what to do...his legs are becoming more and more bare everyday and I don't know how much more I can take. We've tried flea medicine, but it doesn't work. Please, are there any other things out there that have worked for you? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
head n shoulders shampoo works AMAZING. a girl I knew found a puppy that was INFESTED with fleas...head n shoulders took them right off. it killed all of them almost instantly.

-and it is safe to use on a dog!
theres a new product called comfortis. Its actually a pill that you give them orally that kills all the fleas on them within 30 minutes and kills all the fleas and eggs in your home in about an hour. This pill lasts for 30 days. It works much better when given with a meal. you can only get it from your vet. It is not on petmed or anything like that. ive worked at a vet clinic for going on 5 years now and this product has been out about 2 1/2 years. Ive been giving it to my dach/beagle mix for 2 years and have never seen a flea on her.
Flea colors, along with flea treatments that can be bought at walmart for cheap. That cured my dog after one treatment. But if it doesn't work for you go to the vet and have them flea dipped, it is more expensive, but works really well. Also you need to wash all their bedding or if they sleep with you, your bedding. Without doing this the fleas will keep coming back and keep coming back without avail.
If the fleas are in the environment, you've also got eggs. Flea bombs won't kill eggs. Flea collars don't work. A lot of the drops available at pet supply stores are counterfeits and won't work (the code numbers on the sides of the box are not the correct manufacturer numbers if you contact the companies). Stores buy from distrubution warehouses, who buy from the person who sells them at the lowest cost. Fake meds get on the shelves all the time this way. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Get your flea meds from your vet, they order direct from the manufacturer. Call your animal control unit first, though, and ask what they use--they'll know WHICH of the main three work best in your area of the country.

The big three are Frontline, Advantage and Revolution. Then get a dose for each dog (based on their body weight) and treat them.

As for your home, vaccuum daily, any flea off the dogs that the vacuum sucks up will die in the process.
everyone has told you about treating the animal, well its just as important if not more, to treat your house, if your not using a product (usually a spray) to spray and kill the fleas that are left in the house, your curing the dogs and they are just getting reinfected by coming back in the house. you also have to wash all the areas that they sleep, like bedding but it has to be sprayed too. you cannot wash everything in your house. they live in the carpets, rugs, drapes, and alot of other places you would never think of and cant be thrown in a washer. this is usually peoples most common mistake when it comes to treating fleas
