Is this website not good?
So, I have noticed that when people on YA ask questions about specific breeds I suggest that they look at www.dogbreedinfo.com. Every time I mention that website, I get loads of TD's. Am I missing something? I know they have a section on their website completely devoted to mutts and so called "reputable" breeders of mutts, also known as "Hybrids" or "Designer" breeds * rolls eyes * but they also mention rescue groups for these mutts.
So, am I missing something? Should I not suggest that people go to this site? I have always found it extremely informative.
answer: It appears to be a very commercial website not aimed really at proper education but more at selling people on breeds and in particular certain breeders. I would be wary of it just based on the fact that there is no "about us" page and you have no idea who their sponsors/financial backers are - it seems that if you want to give them money you could post anything you want on that site.

The most helpful (professionally educational & legitimate) sites I have found are www.petplace.com, www.veterinarypartner.com, www.aspca.org, and pretty much any university site, though it depends greatly on the information you're trying to find. If you're looking for info on breed standards and genetics, then consider
http://www.akc .org/breeds/ and most local breed clubs will have reputable breeder info - that is people whose goals are preserving and improving the traits of the line, breeding responsibly and healthfully - not just for the almighty dollar.
Hope this is kind of what you were asking.
In this economy there are good and bad breeders on EVERY site.
That is the truth you just need to know what is is that you are looking for and what you want.
Evaluate the breeder, and figure out what you want the dog for.
If you want to show or breed, you want a full AKC registration, if you want a pet you can go with a limited registration.

If you don't care about a registration than you don't.
So many people on here will mock anyone that is not AKC or that they think is a puppy mill and than suggest a shelter where you really know absolutely nothing. It all depends on what you want.
They advertise mutt breeders and try to give specific qualities/info on mutts (when that is dang near impossible to do with any mix). They often give false information about their purebreed dogs and the breeders they list for them are often not reputable either.
The ONLY reputable place to find info on dogs is the AKC website.
That is a good website. It gives a lot of information about dogs and dog care. I don't know why you are getting TD's. Some people do that to be mean. Some people are trying to win points by having the best answer, so they vote down another answer. It would be great if everybody just answered honestly.
* I like petfinder.com, too.
I don't know! I haven't been in this situation like this before (I also suggest people to visit this website). I don't think that there is anything wrong in this website. It's just the people! So, just keep it up! Don't even bother to care what other people think.
It's not credible. A lot of their info is incorrect, and written by regular people that "own" the breed, NOT experts. I NEVER suggest Dog Breed Info.
Please know that as you grow older there are always people that will treat you badly no matter how helpful you are or try to be. They apparently are not making better suggestions so trust your own judgment and ignore the nay sayers. It is my personal opinion that to deliberately breed curs and mutts that usually wind up in shelters is a crime and the worst kind of shame. Enough of us make dumb mistakes that to deliberately breed should be a felony. Only people that are reputable owners of show dogs that can afford to buy and own registered show dogs should think about breeding and then only the near perfect Standard. The big problem at this point is that the puppies are sold prior to being old enough to spay or neuter and every dog owner thinks their dog should have the right to be a parent. And little Fido or Fifi is too perfect and just maybe they could make some money and not get their hands dirty. There is no money to be made breeding dogs. There are too many variables and it really has to be an expensive hobby after you have made your money and even then it is like the Wall Street, at least as lucrative.
