Should i get allergy tested before i get a new dog?
... i love dogs. i've been around plenty of dogs that shed and havent had any reactions. sometimes ill get the sniffles but i dunno if thats from the dogs or not. i have a dog.. hes a shih tzu.. and hes one of the hypoallergenic low shedding breeds and i dont experience type of allergic reaction to him. BUT... im not around dogs that shed a lot to know whether or not im allergic. i usually just pet the dog... and play fetch for a minutes. i wonder what it would be like living in a house with pet hair everywhere. im thinking about getting a new dog, and it happens to be a high shedding breed..so before i get the dog do you think i should get allergy tested?

FYI there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. So if you're okay with the Shih Tzu then you should be fine with any dog. If you were allergic to fur, then you would be allergic to your current dog. If you were allergic to dander, then you would be allergic to your current dog.
Get allergy tested and if it comes back positive, have the doctor prescribe you some allergy meds, a lot of the time they are stronger than the over-the-counter products. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I'm allergic to dogs as well, but thanks to allegra :) I can snuggle up close to my golden retrievers all night long and day with not one sniffle.
you go to a place to get the dog that has dogs and there's air holes in their caging or no caging at all and you go near the dog, you can know pretty quick if you have an allergy to them.... so getting tested at a hospital or so would be a waste of time and money.
either get tested or get a low shedding breed like a standard poodle

Not fair to wave a nice home in front of a dog and then be all sorry you shed too much and have to give the dog back to where it came from
well on the weekend wake up at night and go outside for a little bit because you will be doing that so he/she can go to the bathroom or you can mabe sit one of your Friends dog and see how it goes :)
it wouldn't hurt to get allergy tested. cause i have bad allergies and i have a bunch of animals. but i only seem to get affected by the season changes during the year. But it would be a smart idea to get allergy tested. but i wouldn't think you would have allergic reaction to dogs. cause you have to swell up real bad when you get around dogs to be considered a real bad allergic reaction enough to put you in the hospital to say you cant have a dog. but if you do get sniffles from long haired animals like cats and dogs they would just give you zyrtech like they have me on and it actually works. but i dont thnk you have nothing to worry about :)
