Pregnant Schnoodle question?

Pregnant Schnoodle question?
I have a Schnoodle that bred with a Jack Russell Terrier. Not sure what to call that mixture but my concern is mom (the Schnoodle) isn't gaining enough weight. The Vet said try human food as a bribe and I am not wanting to start that habit. She used to eat trash and anything she could get plus she is VERY picky. I Goggled Folic Acid and also ideas to feed her but I found mostly dog food that she already doesn't care for.
This is a whole new world to both of us and being the parent of a picky eater and pregnant puppy I am concerned. I rescued her from an abusive home and she was already expecting so she can't be spayed as of yet but otherwise she appears to be hhealthily I am gguesstimatingfrom her ultrasound the pups will arrive this month and the JR was the only dog in the pin with her plus they were tied up non stop. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
The new Vet in our area was concerned but seemed to feel that I should just know the answers to the questions I have since I have my own children and my sister was a vet tech, but all of her suggestions have not worked. Is there anything special I should do for her since her past is so sketchy? I don't want her to be afraid of people but she is, so I am concerned how to pprepareto help her. She is also just too small for a litter of 5, but time will tell about the pups.
She is about 9 months old but with her neglect and abuse issues she is not sure what to think and as I said she is a picky eater so she just runs from me and hides until I am in bed and then she will come around.
I got some vitamins but she won't take them. I tried hamburger and rice, chicken and rice, rice, cottage cheese, bread, wet food, dry food and other things too including fruit. She won't eat them or takes only a nibble and that's it.
My dogs have always been fixed and I highly suggest that to everyone but she came to me she was already pregnant and its taken me 3 weeks to get her to just warm up to me and sleep in a dog bed in my room. I really am stumped as to what else I can do. I have another Vet appointment with another vet a week from this Friday but in the meantime I would like some help so every suggestion will be gratefully appreciated. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Thanks! PS what should I call the Jack Russell and Scnhoodles?
answer:
You should call them mixed breeds- anything else is just a glorified advertisement pretending its a purebred.

Your vet might have some tasty prescription, or high calorie, foods that your female may like.

You can also try baby food or toddler's meatsticks (like mini-hot dogs) that your dog may like.

While you may not -like- giving her human food at this point you need her eating well and reliably- keep trying foods until you find something she eats reliably. She might just be one of those dogs that never eats well or in any significant amounts.

Are you free feeding her? Sometimes that will make a dog more picky if they know they have the option of always having food on hand.

You say she used to 'eat trash and anything she could get' which doesn't really work with "very picky." Is she only picky about dog food? Or mealtimes? What changed from "eats anything she can get"? Is it the pregnancy? If she normally eats everything she can that shouldn't have changed- the pregnancy might have changed it but your statements contradict themselves and there really isn't enough information to say why that changed- I'm assuming the pregnancy? pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Edit: Given her history and her dietary issues I would EXPECT pregnancy complications such as dystocia and/or eclampsia- she doesn't sound like she has a nutritional, well-balanced diet and you have already admitted she comes from a sketchy background. Any kind of pregnancy related issues are probably going to cost you a few hundred to a few thousand dollars- be prepared to have the puppies OR the female pass away- these are risks you need to expect par the course with a pregnant female dog- the fact that yours is coming from such a bad background (and the diet issues aren't going to help) are NOT going to help that.

Make sure you learn what to do for any of the various pregnancy complications- I would also get her tested for canine sexually transmitted diseases such as brucellosis.

Spaying at such a late date might be quite difficult- there aren't too many veterinarians who (for moral reasons usually) will do an emergency abortion/spay with a female that isn't early on in the pregnancy. You might have been able to get one earlier on- but if you wanted one NOW you would have to shop around for a vet willing to do it.
Honest answer spay your mixed breed dog she is 9 months old i am to gobsmacked to say anything else
