Best small breed ???????
no maltese cuz it has to much hair and i cant be bothered with grooming? i want a lapdog but also a little ball of energy that will have fun playing fetch, going for walks and swimming. At the same time i want a relaxed dog that can just lie down on my lap and relax for a car ride ..

Good Luck:]

A Boston Terrier! They are a ton of personality and can hang with the big dogs but are also small enough to curl up in your lap and hang out. As long as you exercise them everyday and train and socialize them appropriately (as you should any dog you get) they will be wonderful little dogs. They also have short hair so you don't have to do any grooming other than bathing them regularly. Also you have to clean their face wrinkles daily but that's super easy. Same as wiping a baby's nose. Good luck with your new dog and please do your homework and know exactly what you're getting into when you adopt a dog!!

MOST small/toy breed dogs have high grooming requirements. Many also require professional grooming, which is expensive for a high school student to afford.

Some you may want to research FURTHER are Smooth Coat Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers, Manchester Terriers, Pugs, and Toy Fox Terriers.

NONE of these breeds are recommended for young children (in case you have siblings).

Chihuahu smooth, min pin, manchester terrier, toy fox terrier, and Pug. Most small breeds need lots for grooming.

as for what you want it will vary between each dog.

If you are leaning towards Pugs be aware that Pugs aren't great swimmers and will need a lifejacket, they have been known to sink the second it gets in the water, and the ones that are ok swimmers tire and sink. So it will need constant supervision around water. And grooming is simple, brush once a week for a couple minutes and wipe wrinkles daily so a rash doesn't develop.

ADD: Why have a bunch of you guys suggested breeds that need lots of grooming when she has said that she can't be bothered?

Shih Tzu's have the hair of a maltese, but you can give them a puppy clip every 2 months to make their coat adreable!

I would go on

http://www.breeders.net

and give your zip code and see some breeders near you, as for what breed, I am assuming you are a first time dog owner, so i would suggest a shih tzu. here is some information on the:

A Bichon Frise. They are cute, fluffy (but dont shed) need clippings every month or so, and will lay down with you or run and play. They have nice temperments and are cut little balls of fluff. they were made to be lapdogs by the french. hope this helped <3
