Dog collar or harness?
I am going to buy my dog a new collae he always had a collar he is now 6 month old and needs a new one

he pulls really hard some time he start couching he is pulling so hard we are training him
he is a 6 month old male lab ....

answer:
Teach him to walk on a loose leash. For this, it helps to get a halter (not harness). Whenever he pulls, stop and wait for a couple of seconds after he stops pulling. then start walking again. This can take weeks to months , depending on the dog. You should ALWAYS have a colllar on your dog at all times (except when bathng him), but when you want to take him on walks i would put a halter on him in addition to the collar before and while hes being leash trained.

You have a vast array of choices, so it depends on how/why your dog pulls.

There are head collars like the Halti or Gentle Leader. It works like a halter does on a horse, directing their head.

Then, there are harness options like the Easy Walk. It turns a dog from its front end and puts pressure across the dog's shoulders as opposed to their neck. Harnesses that attach to the back of a dog are useless on pullers as this is one of the strongest part of a dog's body.

Finally, there are martingale collars, which go slack when a dog isn't pulling and tighten up when a dog is.

If your dog is a habitual puller, then most options will work just fine. If he's an "active puller" (meaning he puts every ounce of his strength into pulling ), then I'd suggest using one of the above training aids ALONG with behavior modification. If your boy is food motivated (which he probably is considering he's a Lab), then it should be rather easy to redirect the energy he puts into pulling .

When i was training my small dog, a Pug, when he was a puppy i used a harness.

Now that he is older and trained and walks loosely i have him on a half-check collar. Not to choke him, just so that it can hang loosely but tighten if he attempts to back out so it cant slip over his head (He has a thick neck).

But with larger dogs i wouldnt advise using a harness for training them not to pull, simply because it gives them more strength.

I used clicker training to teach my dog to walk nicely. I used to walk the opposite way, i find a better way now is to just stop, let him reach the end of the leash. Walk backwards and when he willingly walks towards me i will turn and continue going the direction we were going in the first place and click and reward when he is by my left side. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I make him wait at roads and make sure he leaves the house and garden in a calm manner. Sometimes when we get through the gate hell turn to look at me and jump excitedly but as we walk he just walks alongside me happily.

I got my Pug from his breeder when he was 3 months & 3 weeks old. I'm sure you have had your dog longer and really he should understand that he must walk well by now. It's not difficult. Enroll in dog training so he can get socialized and trained around other dogs.

Have you gotten him into obedience class yet? If not I'd start looking for one . I would suggest a gentle leader, it really does help so long as you follow the instructions, get the dog used to it, and use it properly.:)

I'd say dog collar , but seen as you haven't been able to train him full yet maybe a harness is in order ... Maybe you should also seek professional help to train your dog? It's just 6months is a little long for your dog not to be trained yet ...

Harnesses encourage pulling. That is why they are used from dog sledding, weight pulling and tracking, because the dog is SUPPOSED to pull. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

If you are having problems with your dog pulling I would avoid a harness and look into training.

You should get a harness if he is a big dog. That is a dangerous situation for you and the dog if he is pulling you when you walk him. I suggest you take your dog to obedience school.

Front clip harness might help with pulling and won't damage his neck.
