What do you do if your dogs spay/neuter incision split about

What do you do if your dogs spay/neuter incision split about an inch?
My dog was spayed 6 days ago and she shows no sign of pain but her incision is healing but the middle part is slightly split. I am considering putting Hydrogen Peroxide on it. I brought her to a veterinarian 3 days ago, but it is splitting more by the day. Do you have any suggestions of what I should do.

answer:
Do not put hydrogen peroxide on it. You will cause tissue to die, making the problem worse.

If the vet did not think the splitting was enough to be a problem, you can leave it alone. If it becomes too big, the solution is for a vet to put stitches in it, or to use some other method of closing the incision. Steri-strips are available at a drug store without a prescription. They literally tape the two sides together. I use them routinely on humans and do not know if they would work on a furry animal.

First you need to get this dog to a vet. The incision should not be splitting apart. Until you can do that, you need to keep the dog calm. Most vets say, do not let the dog do much if any exercise, no jumping nothing "big" for the first 7-10 days after surgery so that this very things does not happen. So, confine your dog, restrict its activities. And, get her to the vet ASAP. An emergency vet might be a good place to start. Also, you need to keep her from licking the incision.

Don't use peroxide ... it is irritating to tissue and delays healing. Is the skin just opening a bit or can you see inside a deep wound? If so, she needs medical care asap to avoid infection. It would be best to have it seen anyway .... no vet I know would charge for rechecking his own surgery. Make sure she isn't licking at it .. . this if often the cause of incisions opening.

Do not use peroxide. Peroxide delays healing because it destroys healthy healing tissue. You need to keep your dog from licking at the lesion and quiet. Call your vet. Sometimes these need to be sutured instead of just glued closed.

here are instructions

Return the dog to the vets for extra stiches. Do not use hydrogen peroxde you knob. Shessh.

Find a different veterinarian if the current one couldn't fix the problem. This could end up killing your dog.

take her back to the vet and they should put stuff on it to seal it back up.

Take her back to the vet if they say its fine then i guess it is ok

GO BACK to the vet.
