What would you do if your children were allergic to your pets?
I know early exposure to pets decreases chances of allergies but does not guarantee them. So what if your baby was allergic to your dog? Do you get rid of the dogs? Do you put your one year old on allergy medication and nebulizer treatments for asthma? Do you bath the dog and brush constantly to get rid of the dander and if that does not work they still have attacks what do you do?
answer: Thats a very good question,
Depends on how severe the allergy is-I am allergic to dogs-yet we have a dog. I get allergy shots. I am also allergic to the environment. They come to cut the grass (CONDO) my daughter is stuffed up for 2 days.
My daughter (allergy shots) and husband are allergic to cats .... she cant pet the cat - without washing her hands afterwards. My husband gets itchy skin
We actually had 2 cats one 1 yr and one 9 yrs. The 1 yr old we found a new home from but the 9yr we coudlnt do it .. Some pets, especially older will pass on or die from lownsomeness.

We just keep the pets to a minimum ... no hamspters, no birds ... they are worse. I have asthma and love my pets, so does my daughter. Breaking your kids heart to give away there pets (especially years later) is not something they wont forget. If they have asthma like I do ... and my daughter. I have had my daughter learn that we cant live our lives in a bubble.
I'd get rid of the kid, as the pets were there first.
Okay, KIDDING!
Seriously, though: I would definitely try to "tough it out", as what you said (ie, that early exposure decreases the chance of allergies) is absolutely true. I'd give it some time, see if things get better, and if not ... well, then, it may come down to having to re-home the animal.
However, I would do absolutely everything that I possibly could first (eg, extra doggie baths, lots of brushing, etc.) before I even considered that last option.
First, it would depend on the allergy and its severity. If having the dogs live outside would fix the problem, etc ... I would do that as a means to have it both ways.

If my child had to be on medication just so I could keep my dogs, the dogs would have to go. I don't like to medicate my kids if I don't have to, and my children and their health come before my pets. I love my pets, but they are NOT my children, and if they were costing my child's health, etc ... ( including having to medicate the child just because of the pets), the pets would have to be re-homed. It would be a hard decision to make, but as a mother first and foremost, I have to do what I feel is best for my children, and medicating them just so that the pets can stay, is NOT what's best for my children, in my opinion.
When you have children your first priority is for the welfare of your child .
No good parent would make their child suffer through the misery of allergies that they had the power to prevent. The dog would be re-homed.
Any future pets brought into the home would have to be ones that did not cause illness to the child.
This is actually a really good question ... I think.LOL pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Although my baby is now 8 years old ... I have actually thought of this scenario before even with my husband. Who does have seasonal allergies, (like to pollen, etc.)
If something could not be done to where I could happily have both I would most definitely re-home my dogs. It would be a brutal situation for me ... but my child comes first & always will.
ETA-some of you have some serious problems. .. if you would choose your dog over your child in the case that you couldn't have both.
no you adopt the dog out to a good home baby on allergy medication are ua moron get rid of the dog skippy ru a parent for real? or ru joking with this dumb question!

I've been alergic to animals my whole life but that never stopped my father from keeping dogs, cats, birds, horses, goats, sheep, llamas, snakes,
guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, donkeys and rats.
Then again, most of the furry animals lived outdoors ....
